Shh! Don’t tell anyone, but I think I am finally getting over Covid! That said, an allergic reaction to something (pollen probably) during my run yesterday was not pleasant! I went into work this morning, taught one lesson and came home and went to bed while the histamine worked its way out of my system…. Then braved a run this evening. |

That's good news Mrs B. Sorry, friends that I haven't been on here for a few weeks. Well it is largely because I was rather demotivated, after being told by the doctor at the Fracture Clinic that I must stop running permanently, or else I would end up having a Knee Replacement op. Well I saw my physio - who is also a very experienced sports-physio - about a month or 6 weeks later. He totally disagreed with the consultant, saying that giving up running was more likely to lead to a Knee Replacement op. He said that my leg muscles are strong, and I have no significant gait problems. On his advice, I have started walk/run, gradually building up the distance. At the moment I seem OK. I'll try to frequent this thread more often, even though in reality I doubt whether I'll ever achieve 1000 miles in a year again. |

I have a link somewhere that cited research that says that stopping running will cause more problems than carrying on… I will see if I can dig it out. In other news, Steve45 prompted me to share my thoughts on my recent Boston marathon, so here is the link: mrsbridgewater.blogspot.com |

Great to see you Ev I do miss your words of wisdom and seeing how you’re doing. My mam has arthritis in her knees and feet was told not to run but her GP had said same as your physio not running will make it worse. She found when injured that knees and feet were worse and our physio also agreed she should run but increase the strength work - I don’t think she does as much as she should unless something starts to niggle but she’s doing well. ill check out your blog later MrsB i must get a wriggle on as I’ve got sports massage shortly - first one since November - I used to go religiously every 6-8 weeks but did t get round ti starting them up again after my op was cancelled. Also MrsB fingers crossed on the Covid situation too. |

That's good to hear MrsB that you think that you are finally getting over Covid. Thanks for the Boston link, I'll have a look later. Good hearing from you again Evangel. It appears that many doctors are clueless when it comes to treating running injuries. I'm on the over 70's runners Facebook forum, and the majority tell the same story about being given incorrect advice by Doctors. Most that have had knee operations have regretted it, and some have never run since. It's good that you have started to walk/run gradually building up again. It's good to hear that your mam ignored the doctors advice GG, and saw a physio who agreed that she should run, and also increase her strength work. I hope your sports massage goes well. My dental appointment went ok yesterday and was painless, except for the heavy bill. The dentist fitted the new tooth, to replace the one that fell out. No running today, just the usual Friday Farmers Walk. |

Sports massage was magic if not a bit painful on the old ITB and seems this is the cause of the achy back. Hopefully released. He does think my 0-26 days of yoga is the cause. Like anything build up slowly 🤣

Fingers crossed Mrsb that you're over covid and you manage to steer clear of any more pollen. Thanks for the blog link. Hello Evangel, do stay around despite not managing 1000 miles, your input on the thread is always welcome. I'm really pleased you're building up your running again. GG, you're still getting the miles in with lots of split runs with family and friends, well done. Cross training again hillstrider and dentists aren't cheap. A little 4 mile jaunt for me this morning. The wind is back today and we've just had a shower, luckily my wife had bought in the washing. |

I'm one of those loner types you mentioned Lesley. I suppose I'm lucky that my wife runs, she's "retired" from silly 100 miles and 24 hour stuff and only into 10-20 distance. But we "talk running" and have that overall interest in athletics which is enough for me. And we only run occasionally together now because of my bloody issues which look like, according to my GP this morning, are down to long covid. My chest XRay came back normal so now she's in touch with a respiratory specialist to get further info. Nice seeing a better approach now Ev and you're back out there. I guess it's about the degree of pain that one can tolerate as a possible result of running. Glad your sports massage has benefitted any aches gg. Glad dental work went ok hs, that was a bummer losing a filling just before Boston Mrsb but it didn't stop you! About time you let us know about it all!!!😂 Will read the blog now . |

Enjoyed the blog Mrsb and I would have put money on you getting well under the five hour mark. Nice to have run in Central Park too.
