flanker unplanned shot at a sub-45 and a PB. Might do it, but will be a risky bet....

update: Did it :-) 2 PBs in 2 days. Well chuffed. And broke the 45 minute barrier. :-D

Go-KL Well I will have just run the London Marathon and then cycled from Land's End to John O'Groats, so this will definitely be a case of survival rather than go out for a time. It will be a case of how hard the ride was, in theory running should be possible as I won't have since London, but this is very much a trip into the unknown.
POST RACE UPDATE:
Silverstone 10km race: The culmination of the triple challenge of London Marathon and riding from Land's End to John O'Groats. Felt kind of odd to have my achievements announced before the start of the race but it bought much amusement to those coming to cheer me on.

Was totally unsure how I was going to perform, as I was tired and legs were tight from 870 miles of cycling. However the race went pretty well, running with a high heart rate, but feeling comfortable throughout. On the second lap struggled with the near head wind on the Hangar Straight and then felt some tightness in the left hamstring and calf (A legacy of the cycling) but made it to the finish not too distressed and very pleased with the time that netted me 49th position overall. Then I suffered cramp in both quads that illustrated how close I was to blowing up en route.....

KinkyS I'm sure races are supposed to feel hard, and PBs even more so! After almost 3 years of dismally failing to finish sub 45 and always getting 45:xx, today I set off cautiously, and hung back to what felt fairly easy until 6km before finally feeling good and letting myself extend a bit. I finished not out of breath, not sweating, feeling like I just done a training run and yet got a new PB by 1:44, in a race I hadn't even planned on entering. Very comfortable, very pleased, I think there's more to come from these little legs :-)

Nightjar I will not be trying for a PB here.

But I got one anyway!!! Ran the race with an eye firmly on the Garmin to try and ensure an even pace targetting 45 mins. Easier said than done with the fairly strong wind - had to allow the pace to pick up when the wind was behind me - but mile splits are remarkably even. Got to admit that I thought I had been faster than target more than not so I was surprised to see the clock ticking towards 45 mins at the finish - a close call. Hasn't done my shin splints any favours. But who cares!!!

Silvershadow Not been feeling up to training recently. Not fit so please don't bet. Update, Looking back I don't know why I got so worked up about this race. Standing at the start I was thinking what on earth am I doing here? However once I got going it was fine and friendly at the back. A bit windy in places especially on the second lap. My kids really kept me going. It was like rent-a-fan-club. Whistling and shouting at me, I just had to finish with a sprint!

The Teaboy Yeah baby - got this right. Eased off in the 1st k. Split 21:35 at the half, worked into the wind. Under 35 minutes at 5 miles. Hurt in the last mile, gave it the patented berries in the last 400 - 43:30PB and under 7 minute mile pace. All boxes duly ticked. NEXT!
