A friend of mine got turned down as her viens were too small for even their smallest needles.
Didn't stop them trying though, and her arm came out black and blue through all the bruising.
And she nearly fainted having her consulation cup of tea too.

I've been donating platelets every 5 weeks or so, for several years but the last time I went in they just took a small sample to test for anti-HLA antibodies that can cause "TRALI" (Transfusion-Related Acute Lung Injury). This seems to be the latest concern among the blood transfusion crowd. The test came back favorable, but then they found that the clerk had checked the wrong box for one of those intrusive sexual activity questions, which put me on their "deferred' (AKA "sh*t") list. Then a higher-up from the blood center phoned, asked me the intrusive question again, got the approved answer, and finally I am squared away to donate platelets again towards the end of April. This is all in the U.S., by the way.

High five to all you donors. I used to donate but was 'retired' when diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Big thanks to all you guys for giving though.

I've not been allowed for a couple of years either. However now drug free again (hooray!) so maybe when the mobile unit comes our way again. *crosses fingers*

I'm doning again this evening - 37th donation.
I've been for a 6 mile run this lunchtime - that shouldn't matter, should it? As long I'm well rehydrated?

I can list a number of reasons but none of them would really carry weight.
