My brother in law did Borrowdale a couple years ago and there was a sign that read 'No Poles allowed, this is a fell race.'

In another colour pen 'sticks' was written above poles to clarify.

I wonder if they had some offended Polish people :)

One bit of advice - label your sticks with distinctive markings. I was in aid station on UTMB and one chap had lost his poles. Wasn’t clear if stolen or mislaid but they were completely generic Black Diamond ones so impossible to prove if “borrowed”.

Mine have a few bits of tape and stickers on them and I will put my name and number on them for the next race I use them to avoid “confusion”.

That’s a good idea Dave. Mine are probably less commonplace but it wouldn’t hurt to mark them up.

The other thing I found useful is to make sure left and right poles are obvious, my black diamond ones are identical other than the wrist straps so hard to tell apart especially at night, I have put additional red tape on the right one to make it stand out if I have been carrying them both together.

Piles definitely allowed at fell races and unlikely in my experience to be kit checked ;-)

In this webinar we have a question and answer session with LEJOG world record holder Carla Molinaro. We will be talking a little about training and racing in a multi-day ultra, as well as her recent race at the recent Hoka One One Project Carbon X 100k, and you will be able to post your questions direct to her.

Nice - if I finish teaching yoga on time, I'll be able to make that one!

No problem for those who cannot make the time slot. We upload all webinars to the Athletics Hub (www.athleticshib.co.uk) afterwards. It takes around a week (sometimes a little longer) for the team at EA to pull down the webinar(s), edit, and upload. So you can always rewatch at your leisure later.
