I'm hoping to have a moving date of 17 May. Time to start sorting sh*t out.

I was ruthless in my decluttering since I was moving to a smaller home with much less storage. Our local charity shops were great at collecting piles of books and bigger items.

Good luck Rich.
We're potentially moving to somewhere bigger, but I really do want to have a good clear out. We started last night with a box of 'memory stuff' - concert tickets, things from trips away and band memorabilia. We did manage to get rid of some stuff and shred some old paperwork.
My OH keeps old birthday and Christmas cards and every note I've ever written, even if it's just 'I'm off for a run - see you in an hour'

Got a survey and legal pack to digest over the weekend.
Had a worrying moment earlier as our buyer had not been in touch with estate agent for over a week after having seen their mortgage broker. Anyway, they’ve broken ground and things are progressing so panic over.

So much of house buying and selling seems to be waiting for other people to do stuff, whether it's vendors, buyers, estate agents or solicitors. Out estate agent was pretty good in that she called every Monday to see what was happening, which meant I could then chase the solicitors. Though so often the buyers would say 'we're waiting for xyz' when it was something I'd already done, I suspect their solicitor wasn't passing stuff on very quickly.

Our Buyers survey done last week, and they should have their searches through later this week. Hopefully they will get a move on, our buyer is a teacher and apparently is “too busy in the week to respond to emails” so it has taken ages to get answers. Less said about this the better.
We are very close to exchanging on our purchase, but the sale lagging behind. Got the first

Well all ready to exchange on purchase, and looks like our sale could be ready by the end of next week if our buyer pulls their finger out. We shall see.
Dreading the moving day as a fair chance my wife will be out of the country on a business trip! Still fewer arguments!

Buyer pulled out just before exchange. Concerned that a Victorian property has had work done in the distant past which isn’t officially documented - which is very common for these period properties.
Very gutting. A lot of time and money and energy and effort up in smoke. We still want to move and love the house we want to buy and hope they will wait for us. Will tell them on Monday.
Relisted property with the agent, priced it attractively to hopefully a get quick offer in the hope of keeping the house we want to buy. More notional “paper” money up in smoke. Market is slow and buyers price sensitive. Difficult situation as we need to move and want to move but haven’t seen anything else as good with as much as a pull factor as the house we want to buy.
I guess it’s life - it’s my third purchase and this is the first time it’s all gone tits up like this. My wife is not used to the English house buying system and does not think it’s very good - I am inclined to agree. I understand it’s far more logical in Scotland?

That’s rubbish TMW, how frustrating. The solicitors seem to be really aware of any issues these days, we had to provide all sorts of proof where we could, even though we’d been in the house 18 years. An issue arose from the previous occupants which we knew about when we bought it (I think related to original builders going bust, or the conservatory that was added) which really wasn’t an issue at all, but they made it out to be *roll eyes*
And that was a modern house. Surely anyone buying a Victorian property realises they can’t track every change and that maintenance will be ongoing?
I’m now keeping every invoice relating to anything I have done in my current place.
