Nice result there Scribbler.

Mortgage approved and survey booked so all being well we will be moved by June. It can’t be that simple surely can it?

In my experience even if it’s simple the lawyers on both sides will find things to query that seem trivial

I’m currently selling a commercial property I part-own. The buyers want evidence of something financial from 2005. Who keeps records that long? (And certainly not having moved house 18m ago, I got rid of anything more than 7y old)

Our buyers solicitors asked for an installation certificate for our wood burning stove- which had been fitted 15 years previously!

Amazingly the shop who did it were able to email me a copy of our original quote/invoice.

I checked with the accountants and they don’t have it. Unsurprisingly considering GDPR says you shouldn’t keep records past their use.

OK, so I may be getting ahead of myself here, but there's 21 year worth of stuff to pack up when we eventually move and OH is a bit of a 'keep it, it might come in useful' type.

Does anyone have any tips for packing up? Especially clearing an attic and shed and trying to dispose of things responsibly (not just 1 million trips to the tip). And any tips on keeping it organised, not getting too stressed about the process.
I can feel my opportunities for running and cycling at the weekends being curtailed by viewings and charity shop drop offs.

We found Freecycle was really useful to get shut of stuff that hasn't much financial value. Lower priced stuff went on Facebook marketplace and we did a bit of Ebaying.

I guess a skip might be worth looking at - cost v convenience. It doesn't necessarily end up in landfill; we had plenty of people asking if they could take stuff out.

Start one drawer/box/shelf at a time so you don’t get overwhelmed.

Be ruthless, think about how you will find a space for something and is it really useful? If you’d forgotten you had it, you don’t need it.

Facebook market place for things that can be collected, but don’t expect a high price.

I did a car boot and took over £100, and took the rest to charity (or used the doorstep collections)
Once you start it gets easier.

If your OH is not good at throwing stuff away try without him. If he can’t name something specific he needs to keep from the loft then he doesn’t need it!

Thanks XB and Meglet. I have been saying we need to go through box by box since Christmas but there's always something else to do (like go running :-)). I know at some point he will say 'we'll take it and sort it out later...' But OH has done loads to get the move in progress so I feel it's only right that I do my bit when it comes to it.

I'm going to start bringing boxes down from the attic and dealing with them. I suspect a lot of stuff is sentimental rather than useful to anyone else. So, for example I need to be ruthless about a box of soft toys that I know is up there. And we have loads of CDs, cassettes, records and books.

I'm not bothered about getting money for things but would rather they were used than just thrown away.

I still have the box of CDs I was going to sort through and put into iTunes...
I also still have several unpacked boxes in my garage.

But I stuck to my resolution of only putting stuff in the lift that I actually need once a year, like suitcases, ski gear and Christmas decs
