I think if the intention of the rule is followed, to banned supershoes, then most won't have an issue. All shoes on display won't be on a permitted list though. It will be generally about shoes that look like they break the rules unless some personal bias comes into it (like anthonyj mentioned previously where there was a feeling amongst those in charge that all track races should be in spikes). |

I do think track officials are going to have to be lenient with those participants who truly aren't setting the world alight. If a woman expecting to run 14 mins for 3000m turns up in trainers and the officials have already convinced themselves that it's spikes or nothing they'll be making people feel unwelcome and uncomfortable without good reason, even if the letter of the law would mean that she is achieving a personal advantage in her own PBs, and potentially scoring backmarker points for her club in a league fixture that might be marginally over-stated. Maybe the T&F scene around here is a bit "low key" so I have a different impression, but I'd expect shoe rules generally only to be enforced against those looking to earn county / age group vests, and in county champs and above. Of course, for any coach of a fast young woman or man they should be policing it too to make sure that their runners aren't putting themselves at risk of crossing the finish line and having their performance deleted if the official didn't alert them to it on the start line. |

(Juts to be clear, I mentioned a woman because I can see my wife being in that scenario! Reading it back it looked grotesquely sexist!!)

The Masters League sent out an email with the approved shoe list attached. Low key it might be, but we're expected to comply regardless. Just seems daft that I can't even wear bog standard, heavy, mileage shoes for a 400 if I want to, let alone racing flats with a 21mm stack. I don't own any Fastwitch despite having 27 active pairs of running shoes (I counted yesterday!). Nothing between spikes and old style Adios. Your wife, or the fictional man/woman wouldn't be expected to wear spikes for a 3000m. There are plenty of flats that are allowed for races of 800m plus. But you can't wear something like Brooks Adrenaline, even though those would clearly be a disadvantage, because the stack height is more than 25mm. |

That's the point CC2 - my wife would only ever have one pair of runners, and chances are they are moderately high stack height. Runners like her often don't own race shoes etc, and might just have found that a pair of Adrenaline were nice and comfy!

It takes a lot of us out, I have avoided spikes for anything over 400 due to my mechanical challenges .

Sorry to sound dim but is stack height sole height? It doesn't actually concern me because I live in sprint spikes and never have a problem - but that's just luck - and the fact I rarely race further than 200m. But I am interested.

Having said that I won some New Balance Fresh Foam trainers via Fetch at Christmas and they are ludicrously comfy as everyday trainers. If I ever had to do an 800 I might be tempted to wear them but doubt they'd be allowed.

This link pretty much covers everything: uka.org.uk Stack height is sole thickness including any sockliner. |
