So it's all good with everyone? Busy at least! Trust the weather is holding up. A little cooler for me, still sun but some rain also. A delay setting up my plan but here it is. No races, no specific targets other than a wish to stay stronger, run longer, a little faster and eventually up into the hills. So it's one long run a week to build endurance. One mid-week session to re-learn faster running with three options mapped out: 3x1000m w/ rest recoveries; 8x300m slight uphill w/ walk down recoveries; 5k run to include a 3k hard effort. Strength training twice a week. Just finished a slow 11k and survived. Even if was more of a long interval session with 5k, 3k and 2k segments. |

@Solo - there is always another peak to climb, or at least a plateau to maintain The improvement graph, or maintenance of a level of performance, becomes rather more difficult with the passing of time and age related deterioration starts to grip and it probably needs some gradual changes to training to overcome them, or at least keep them at bay for as long as possible!!! @NZD that was a commendable performance and a good way to get rid of the last vestiges of the 10K. When are you off to Japan - big change from summer to winter?! @Welshpoppy a good week for you indeed and no achilles problems. NIc eand clean as well :-)? @EarlyRiser nice to still have some warmth on your back I would suggest not doing too much speed/higher intensity work at first, just concentrate on building aerobic fitness before introducing faster stuff. It's the old analogy of squeezing the toothpaste out- it's always better to start at the bottom of the tube. Well that was a tough couple of days but I had to get out on Sunday into the garden regardless of how I felt as stuff needed doing and fine, dry weather gave a small window to get it done- examples below!! |

ornamental cherry trees leaves , all 1.5m3 of them I know there was that quantity as I had to shovel them all into my rubble bags and take them to the tip. Felt quite knackered upon completion and as I ruminatively surveyed my garden I realise that there was a lot more to come!! Felt properly depressed so crawled into the house and got even more depressed watching the Newcastle game Wordle in six today - |

I've been clearing leaves all morning. What is worse is that they are all wet and soggy. Also sneaked in a beach run. A lovely mild day. |

And I have been clearing my house since 6 a.m. and taking my belongings to my daughter's house; builders knocking about quarter of my house down to build an extension that will include a downstairs bathroom which I do not currently have. Age proofing! Inspired, sadly, by my 101 year old neighbour who does not have a toilet etc downstairs and can no longer manage the stairs, having to use a commode. Not the best solution. My alternative is somewhat expensive with building costs shooting up all the time. Saturday saw a very successful university relays (I was clerk of the course, having designed it; we had a visit from an England Athletics official who said she was thrilled by the event...although not thrilled that a guy ran with a dog, contrary to EA rules, and if it happened again we would lose our licence, and therefore insurance.) Quite a bit of running/walking on Friday and Saturday putting out the course with a very willing band of students. 199 teams entered, so organised chaos at times. Great atmosphere...and I had negotiated over £3000 worth of prizes from Ronhill Sports. Sunday: fitness suite, and today rest, although I will have walked over 10,000 steps moving things! No time for Wordle yet, although yesterday was a fail due to too many alternatives. Well parkrun, @NZD , (and, I note, @NZC. What is next for you, @Solo ? I can't keep track at the moment! |
