Trying and failing to keep up with this thread Good work @Torque Steer and others leaf clearing xtraining going on here too, especially annoying as the leaves blow over from the village green - will get to a foot deep on bad days progress is good @alehouse Impressed with your progress @Canute very glad you are getting some fell time too I really need to get back to doing strength work, but my hands won't grip barbells properly any more and am struggling to get enough resistance with my bands to be enjoyable - (I did a spell of low rep 'heavy' lifting in the gym a couple of years ago and it was much more fun than higher reps stuff) run progress stalled here, can still jog for a solid hour but having had too many days off recently it feels hard work. Going to build up distance in November with half mile jog/1 minute walks but make sure I do at least 1 60 minute steady jog/week |

@Canute Seems that cautious and steady improvement is the name of the game for both running and lifting! Barbell rows are my favourite lift, perhaps because least strenuous. I do the off-the-floor "Pendlay row" variant prior to my deadlifts and at a little less intensity so they act as a warm-up accessory for the latter. @Rosehip Rosehip jogging for a solid hour? you're ahead of me! Have you considered using straps with the barbell to help with grip? I've no experience of using them myself so it's just a thought. |

@Canute I just marvelled at your strength.25 kilos barbell chest press and that is good for me.60 kilos dead lift is my max at the moment.

@EarlyRiser yeah, straps helped with my poor grip strength and I did use them, but my metacarpophalangeal joints are just too painful with any pressure on them at all - and I have small hands, which doesn't help inspired by @Canute and knowing that resistance is good for me I've been youtubing for ideas how to do heavier resistance work with bands, think I need to make myself a platform thingy to use with them. |

@Rosehip I will be interested to hear what exercises you do with a platform and band. I have now arrested the decline in my fitness, but have not yet made any substantial gains. During today’s jog my heart rate was 957 b/Km, similar to a few weeks ago. Before the recent problems, it was in the range 770-790 b/Km. However the positive thing is that I am jogging further and over varied terrain, yet still there are no complaints from my knee. |

Oops, my last post was in too much haste (had a Tax Return due by midnight and was fast running out of minutes, having worked all day on it!) @alehouse, I did mean to commend you for your part in organising the university relays. Must have been a lot of work involved for such a large event. Great to hear it went so well. I cannot add anything to the discussion on weight lifting. I have never done any gym work though probably should! Simply don't have the spare time though. Hopefully, partly offset by some fairly heavy work needing to be done around our 4 acre, semi-rural property. A bit variable though - sometimes quite strenuous (tree roots, swinging a 5kg chainsaw around, or splitting firewood for a few hours on end, etc) but also weekends with no hard physical activity ... @Canute good to hear your fitness progression has turned a corner, and still no problems with your knee. Getting back to ~780 b/km will take time but you clearly have the patience to do it. @Welshpoppy a mini streak 13 days is a big turnaround. Well done. And good to hear your new shoes seem to be working out OK (or were a week ago!) @Rosehip jogging for a solid hour is a sound starting point. I am sure fitness will pick up once you build up more distance in November. |

A bit behind with everything on here. I like the t-shirt too @Torque Steer 😁 I have had a cold and general lethargy but feeling a bit better today. I have a 10 k race on Sunday but no idea what to expect @alehouse then another in a couple of weeks. Hopefully will be feeling a bit more lively by then ! |
