Some nice leaf clearing xtraining @Torque Steer , @Welshpoppy and @OO61. The joys of autumn! Reminds me of a decade plus ago when reading reviews of leaf blower, one of the comments was along the line 'leaves and rakes are an evil axis'. Personally I find a good leaf rake better if the leaves are too thick. Though here on our semi-rural property, I mostly don't bother clearing leaves off our lawn areas. The lawns seem to struggle through (mostly!), though they are definitely not of the nicely manicured TS variety. Previously we did have an ongoing battle clearing leaves from (fairly extensive) paved & deck areas but the trees we recently removed have considerably eased that load. @alehouse sounds even heavier xtraining for you! That sounds quite a big project indeed. Some reasonably solid gardening here too over the weekend preparing ground for a new kumara (sweet potato) bed. Still in progress. Moderate 8.3 km this morning with 2x 700m+ tempo, and 1x 500m threshold efforts. Legs still suffering a bit from the w/e gardening activities (yeah, gardening and running don't mix so well as often mentioned)! |

@alehouse - congratulations on a major organising event! Sounds a lot of hard work even if it was nearly upset by one idiot - I exempt the dog. Hope your hamstring did not suffer from the extra burden dashing around the course, not to mention the house sorting as well. Futureproofing - mmm, recent experiences particularly with Mrs TS have started us thinking along those lines as well but it probably means moving and we do like it where we are. NZD that was a nice mix of efforts this morning despite gardening stiffness I don't think my lawns fall into the manicured variety - more the could do with a good haircut sort It's funny how this year various species have shed/kept their leaves. The cherry trees all fell in two days, the beech and oak are hanging on and have only started turning colour, whilst the silver birch dropped all their leaves nearly three weeks ago - and were promptly blown off into other folks gardens!! |

Most of my leaves come from trees overhanging my gardens from neighbours and those lining the street outside. Easy run this morning with my wife. Might add a few more later. I found some old medals from my first few marathons in the early 90. The are very rusty so trying to salvage them so they can be displayed with the later ones. |

Wordle in four, and five yesterday. Longest continuous run since February today; I had been asked to check whether the relay course had caused any damage to the nearby pitches, so what better way than to run the course, which came out at 3k exactly. Added a smidgeon to make it 20 minutes. Tomorrow may well see cross training gathering leaves in my daughter's garden. |

That sounds like good progress @alehouse I am continuing to jog on alternate days. My knee is happy with jogging. I have been re-discovering my favourite routes on local fells. Some of these routes are well off any beaten track, and not surprisingly have become serious overgrown with bracken and brambles during the summer. In the past I have sometimes detoured to climb minor craggy outcrops. I especially like one outcrop that provides an interesting short five-move climb that involves a satisfying layback move. On Friday I was tempted to attempt this minor climb for the first time in 6 months. I succeeded in getting to the top but unfortunately two of the moves place stress on the right knee. My knee ached a bit for the subsequent 24 hours, but by Sunday it was quite happy during a 30 minute jog. I have now re-introduced barbell squat sessions. The knee was quite happy with squats with the barbell loaded to 60 Kg which is well within my usual 5 repetition capacity. Previously I typically did5 sets of 5 repetitions of 100Kg. |

@Canute 5 sets of 5 reps barbell squats? To parallel? I'm majorly impressed! That's really good lifting. I'm all for this kind of heavy strength training when we get older. Do you include other barbell lifts? deadlifts, rows, press? You seem to be a bit of a goat on the fells! Well done. |

@EarlyRiser I usually squat to parallel or a bit lower, but this week I have not quite got that far down. I find it easier to get below parallel with a heavier load but I am being very cautious with the increase in loading. I have reintroduced deadlifts this week, but only at 70 Kg. In the past I rarely did upper body exercises, but I have recently have introduced overhead press and bench press. In the near future I will add rows to ensure reasonable balance between back and front. I used to be able to do 10 pull-ups but cannot do even one at present. My latissimi dorsi have appear to have melted away. I need these if I want to do demanding laybacks on the crags. I especially enjoy laybacks. |
