Thanks @Solo, @alehouse & @Canute.

Not the sub-50 I would have liked (of course!) but about as good as I could have expected (limited training, course terrain). Pretty comfortable for the first 3-4k but became a struggle through the middle of the race. Probably lost a bit of focus and pace, especially from ~5k - 8k. Pushed harder later but the last two were mostly into a stiff head wind (exposed part of the course), plus the 'reps of death' hill at around 8.5km. Suspect first km was too fast (4:45/km ave) but it felt quite comfortable at the time. I guess happy enough with the 51:30 result ... but now need to find me a proper *flat* 10k race. Alas none around here that I am aware of ๐Ÿ™.

Only four other M70+ runners but at least did come in 11 min to ~31 mins before them. That did result in one slightly amusing side story - a txt from OH shortly after I finished with congratulations for being first M70+ ... out of one! Pointed out that a few more had subsequently crossed the line but suspect 1/5 didn't look a whole lot better.

Not certain what the HR spike just after 3km was about, or if real (there were a few times when the watch seemed to lose contact with the HR belt). Corresponded to low point near centre of a hairpin bend. Following dip in pace was at the start of an uphill section but is more pronounced than expected. I recall thinking at the time that my pace seemed oddly slow there, and indeed it increased again while going uphill (it's part of the parkrun course so know that area well).

Hopefully the elevation vertical scale gets an @Torque Steer pass this time ๐Ÿ˜.

Well done solo I bet it feels amazing and proud๐Ÿ™‚

NZD Great result you must be so pleased with result.
Are there no flat 10ks when you travel? Or just train harder and get sub 50 next year๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜…

Hard conditions this morning with the storm both winds and rain but got an hour done.It was hard coming back into head wind.

Thanks WP. That does sound a tough hour session, especially the back leg.

One correction to above - should have been "to ~30 mins" not 31 - oops.

@Solo lovely letter to receive - very well done.
Good training block to map out now..

@EarlyRiser well that certainly beats my recent long distance driving exploits! Wasn't there a song - " I was lost in France... " ?

@NZD great result - PB, first in your AG ( despite your wife's attempt at relegation :-)) and well under your estimated target time -all good!

Looks like a tough end bit to the race - organisers often do that.

Your HR signal may just have misfired a bit for that early blip and you took it far too easy on the downhill after the later hill :-)

Another day of pickaxing root extraction on a glorious sunny day yesterday.

Went out this morning, clear and still, and clouds and wind rolled in after 10 mins. I tried and succeeded in running a mile without breaks in any easy 12m/m pace HR 121/133 but knee naggled after another 1/2 mile so I walked/trotted back home -b*gger!!

Don't talk to me about Wordle after yesterday - I almost refused to complete it in protest- "fiber" indeed :-(

I think the wording makes it feel more special than it probably is @Welshpoppy but it was quite lovely how proud my daughter's were when I sent them a copy. I hadn't mentioned anything about it. They both phoned me instantly when they had read the message. Not often than happens nowadays โค๏ธ
Well done for fighting the wind!

@NZD a pb and winner by quite a margin! I can imagine it must be a little frustrating not being able to have a go at another any time soon.

@Torque Steer do you think your knee needs extra tlc? Or just one of those days?

Really enjoyed supporting at our local HM. It ends with a nasty climb to the finish which today was into a headwind. We positioned ourselves halfway up the hill which we were told after was very much appreciated. A race I am not tempted to do!

@Torque Steer "... you took it far too easy on the downhill after the later hill :-)". Yes, noticed that too! Except was following your earlier advice "... never really fully recovered on the downhill bits and it's best not to try too hard to make it up" ๐Ÿ˜‰.

Per @alehouse request re Ninja kit pic from a few weeks back! Out of focus and half hidden but had to get this one - only photo I've seen showing both my feet off the ground. Guess it answers that one!
