Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Gobi will probably know Shades. Gobi came from RW originally and think he might still check in there periodically. :-) G

HappyG, Shades popped up on the Fetch HR training thread recently and spoke briefly with Gobi.

Is RW still going? 😉 It’s been years since I looked at their threads. Fetcheveryone is superior in user-friendliness.

Gobi would almost certainly know Shades, she ran a lot more often back when he was running marathons regularly, though that might have changed I have been exactly regular on the circuit the last couple of years.

Gobi used and may still post on the RW daily training thread

Shortcut Cam, it is still going but it’s a shadow of its former self. There are a handful of long running threads still going but not much else.

Joe H, I realised I didn't answer your point about my weight loss. I'm the lightest I've been in 20+ years. I was fit in my early 20s but then got a desk job and waistline expanded. I'm quite tall (6ft2) but did expand to the wrong side of 17st at one point. I'm now 12st2. Usually I'm totally happy with 13st (as I say I'm tall and I'm fine at that for day-to-day life) and if it does sneak over that I'm keen to get it back below that. I ran Rotterdam last year at 13st2 and it was dreadful (3:38), and that was one I was trying to target! I'd spent the week in Netherlands (my OH is Dutch) and was sampling a lot of the Dutch food....

I don't know for absolute sure what weight I was when I ran my better times but I think I was probably 12st10, so it's not a stone since then, but roughly 8lbs.

A contributing factor is that since lockdown I've been running more consistently than I've ever done, which is pleasing. Also I made some small tweaks to my food - basically I removed bread and cereal. We eat healthily anyway, but we've added more leafy veggies and that's it really. I am really, really surprised how easy I've found it and in fact it wasn't even a conscious decision to get down to this weight. I was hoping to lose maybe a couple of pounds.

One thing I do know is that when I'm doing a lot of marathons I do succumb to junk food very easily. I.E., KFC on the way home, sweets, chocolates, etc. I don't do that many doubles/triples, but when I do I eat a lot of rubbish between the events. This is something I need to look at when we get back to doing events.

Don't over think it , for multiple your body just needs calories. I used to manage on pizza and beer, you make up for it by eating healthily the rest of the time.

Weight makes a big difference and mileage/consistent training will bring that down.

I saw on the RW thread you were looking at a 100M week, I believe the best split for it is 14M week days and 15M per day on the weekend. It is much easier if you are doing a runs longer than 10M though as overwise you need to go out at least twice a day

Back into running, ran a 11m loop today taking just 10s difference in time to when I ran back in March. March - 138bpm, June - 150bpm average HR. Temps were a bit different, and I was being forced to chat (!) as I ran with my son, but there’s a decent gulf of HR fitness yet to be recovered in anticipation of a speculative October marathon...

Joe, yeah you’re right about the calories for doubles etc. But it seems that in my case the more events I do the heavier I get :)
