Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Fair enough Chris, I assumed no speed meant literally no speed. Might be worth a shorter tempo so you can sustain higher speeds for the last 2-3 miles (I'm assuming your tempo is progressive if it's currently 10-13 miles long).

Thanks all. Yeah, it's strange having to run so slowly and walk some hills. But I am actually enjoying it, and not racing has given be some time to "reset" a bit whilst doing some decent (for me) mileage.

Windsor Wool, I'm supposed to be doing Frankfurt which is currently still officially "on", but it's really not looking likely. I'm also in for Windermere and Chester, but again I don't really fancy their chances! Although I'm enjoying my training I've not done much over 10-miles recently. Maybe that's the reason I'm enjoying my training :)

When is Frankfurt Big_G?

Germany banned gatherings of 500 or more until 24 October so unless that changes, I don't see how it can go ahead (unless it's after that date)

SPR, Frankfurt is due on 25th October, so hence it's currently "on" based on that 24th Oct date. But they released a statement yesterday which was much more pessimistic about their chances.

Ah I see! Yeah very unlikely that an event like that would happen the day after those restrictions change. I suppose if they realise they can lift them earlier that might change the calculations.

Oh, hi Big_G from the other thread! Welcome to sub 3:15. What's your marathon history and long term target?

We've got serial sub 3:15ers on here, those aspiring to it (either trying first time or long term re-triers) and those a good bit quicker too in the low 3:0x or even sub 3. You'll get lots of good tips and camaraderie.

Good luck Chris or anyone racing virtual races. I don't know how you do it. I love going out for a plod but I'd really struggle to push myself to a "solo race"! :-) G

Thanks HappyG.

I’m on the road to 100 marathons and have currently done 82, so the 100 is a big goal. I was hoping to have gotten there later this year but that plan has been thwarted!

PB from Malta Feb 2018 of 3:19. That’s a downhill course so I suppose my ‘fairest’ best time is 3:20 at San Sebastian in Nov 2018, which is flat. I had a poor year last year for various reasons and best time last year was 3:27 in Berlin.

Although I’m on the road to the 100, I don’t race them all. Far from it. For me, 3:50ish is fairly comfortable I suppose (IE, I can do doubles at around that time) and every now and again I target one for a better time.

I’ve lost a stone in weight over lockdown which I’m hoping will help. I’ve also gone ‘back to basics’ and trying to build an aerobic base since lockdown, hence MAF. I ran something like 270 miles in May, and it’ll be similar in June.

Apart from the 100, ultimately I’d love a GFA but I’m a way off that (I’m 45 this year).

Do you guys know Shades from over on Runner’s World? I’ve been over there for years and I guess she has a lot to answer for ;) I only recently (re)joined Fetch and I’m loving it.

SPR - Tempos are progressive-ish. So yes second half I look to finish faster than the first half, problem is I live on a hill so the last mile or two tend to be climbing up not inconsiderable ramps (5-6%).

Big_G - I think that just losing the stone will get you under the 3:15, (Provided that is that a stone from previous race weight) ?

I got my PB running & racing a fair few more than is recommended, as long as you can train in between them and don't run injured there isn't a reason not to get faster on regular marathons.

Yep I know Selina. Personally I blame Plodding Hippo but she blames Shades as well :-)
