Larks, I got my Asics Mach 11 XC spikes for 15 quid 5 or 6 years ago. They've done less than 50 miles prob! 10 years more in them?

Track spikes will last pretty much forever. XC might get killed by some courses but otherwise the same.

Hoping for equally long lives for my pair. Eldest son has got through plenty of pairs but finally had Ives which should last him for life as his feet have stopped growing!!

Thanks for shoe thoughts. Checked and my usual shoes are 323g, so some savings to be made.
I will go to Run&Become with birthday money and take their advice on whats most appropriate.
HG, thanks for the offer, but too big for me !

Baz - on your racers question. Yes, I'd want to wear any pair in just like I would any other shoe. In your case, if you're in something quite different for the 1st time I assume you also want to break yourself in to them too. So, yes again, I'd run some longer stuff in them too, building up to distance bit by bit to make sure there's no ill effects. You might find your lower legs or feet respond to them in some way. Hopefully not too negatively and Ina way that you can train your way in to.

If you go to a shop, as an asics wearer they might put you in a DS trainer. I have never come across a shoe as hard / slappy or as these. Not all light(er) shoes need to be this way, don't be put off!

Hoka has really screwed up on the Clifton - v1 was about 210g with similar cushioning to v4. It was lighter than my adidas adistar adios with about twice the cushioning.
It was one of the all time great road shoes, wished I'd bought a few pairs.
The Clayton is not too bad as a replacement, but lack of a heel counter gives me less confidence over longer runs.
