Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Pix, you've been fit but I would contend you have never been as fit as you are going to be next spring and there may well be a sub-30min 5k in your future.

I think it depends on what you’re aiming for. When I first took up running after my hip resurfacing op in 2003, I was only planning on running 5k races. During that time I achieved a sub 25 minute PB. I’ve since gone on to target longer distances so would have to work really hard to get a sub 30 5k time. I certainly couldn’t do it at the moment!

Sharkie, took me 2 1/2 years to get under 30 mins for 5K and I've only done it once (actually probably twice as I did a fast almost sub 60 10K too).

It's on my list to aim towards again, but despite half planning to/sort of training for as my NovDec target, by the end of this year isn't very likely now :(

Phew, I was beginning to think I'd said something contentious and hurtful. I did say train for it!

I suppose I reckon a 50% WAVA must be 'average'. Using Fetch's up to date wava-ing my runwalk this morning netted me 53.28.

I was about 52 when I ran my first 5k and a very 'normal' person. 15 miles a week max on average. First one was 28:05, got it down to 27 something before I got obsessed with mileage and things started to go very wrong!

But interestingly, Rosehip, YOUR best WAVA is for a mile.

5k is a weird distance to race even though it has become so familiar with the advent of parkrun. Of course parkrun is not a race (ha ha) so times don't matter....

I need to lose the ballast, the 2s/lb/mile adds up to a lot when I could and should jettison two stone

No miracle, sweetheart. You are probably suited to shorter distances. But that's not what you are interested in! And we do need to do what makes us happy. xxx

I know I'm always saying this but I would love to be able to just distance run normally. 10 min miling would be fine now I am SO OLD. But I find it so hard ...and fortunately I like sprinting more so that's ok.

Can't do everything.
