I thought I'd get better, relatively, as the race distance increased. I don't, though that may be due to never having done optimal training mileage for the marathon and beyond. Even if I had time I'm not sure I'd want to spend that much time running.

I is triaflete, indeed, Sharkie - but I've always been more of a complete than compete type. Speed is much less important to me than stamina, lack of injury, and to some degree efficiency.
As a rugbyist now, too, and a front row at that, stamina is really where its at, though of course being able to throw in a quick sprint would certainly be a nice surprise for the opposition.

But if you is a triathlete I don't think you can deny you is also a runner! Surely a 5k is the least distance you have to run in a tri?

I understand the complete not compete mindset - but you MUST have to practice, surely? Just to make it easier - more pleasant if you like?

Trying to remember all the things I wanted to comment on from 55 posts but failing.

I am bamboozled by the horse stuff. I can barely understand what the horse is supposed to do even using actual language. How the hell do you communicate all that to a flippin’ horse?

I am very short but capable of a sub 30min 5k. I just looked and I managed sub 25min 3 miles during a novice triathlon :-o

ION I went out kayaking today. It highlighted for me again how under confident I am in so many things. Apparently my name has been mentioned in committee meetings as someone to become a kayak leader. My response to this info was ‘me???’ 2 different people commented about how supportive I am and that I’m always willing to share knowledge. Hmmm!

Oh, yeah, I run at least 5k on most runs - I just don't fash meself if it takes 32 minutes rather than 30.

Those sound the kind of comments to take on board, hp. Objective observations.

How would you feel about being a kayak leader? Do you fancy it?

I think I have skills and knowledge to offer, however I have an issue I need to overcome before I could do it. I still have a fear of capsizing which makes me very anxious in choppy water etc. It wouldn’t be fair to lead a group when I could be overcome by fear myself.

Have you talked to your fellow kayakers about it?
