The Doctor K Cup

2 lurkers | 98 watchers
The seventh annual Doctor K Cup will take place on Saturday October 19th 2024

How to join in

Firstly, add the 2024 Doctor K Cup to your Fetch portfolio.

All you need is a GPS watch or app. On the day, RUN AT LEAST 5K WITHOUT LOOKING AT YOUR WATCH. The Fetch Benchmark system will pull out your fastest 5k from your run (so you can include it as part of your long run if you like). The person who gets closest to their prediction will be declared the winner (though the judges decision is final!).

It would be lovely if you could upload your 'K' pics to the gallery (make a K shape with your fingers) to help us remember Doctor K and all the Fetchies we have lost.

NB A GPS watch reporting 5.00km will do so from 4995 metres onwards, but you MUST run at least 5000 metres or more. To avoid disappointment add an extra 10 seconds on to the end of your run, just to make sure.

I didn't check the time I'd predicted a week or two back before setting off this morning but thought it was 34:30. So my parkrun time of 33:15 was well off - but then entering the time on Fetch I see that I'd put 33:30 so was only 15 seconds off. Forgot the photo though *rolls eyes*

Sorry, no photo either and my attempt was tagged by doing my first club track session in 6 weeks the night before meaning I was to tired to run all of parkrun. I was 6 minutes outside my predicted time! Oh dear.

Didn’t get out for a run in the end and my dog walks were much shorter than 5k. Such a special day to remember Fetchies no longer with us.

sallykate yes, I think it is elapsed time.

Mmmm so this is maybe why my run was slower than my garmin …. I had to cross 3 busy roads, it was only time I paused. Oh well not to worry.

So, lets get on to the official result's of the 2023 Dr K cup, a time for us all to come together and remember the members of this community who have sadly departed. It is so joyous to see so many people taking part in this annual event, an event that really owes everything to participation, luck, and has nothing to do with speed or athletic prowess.

And of course, the one constant of this event is bigleggy providing a terrible estimate, don’t ever change my friend.

So 95 runners this year, and we should probably start by recognising the winner of the wooden spoon. That award this year goes to Hudders, remarkably 1 hour, 29 minutes and 22 seconds under their target. Quite incredible estimating and a worthy winner.

And onto the winner. Unbelievably we had 11 people this year who were within 10 seconds of their predicted time, well done to all of you.

However, we move on to the top three now and the real pro estimators.

In 3rd place 🥉 with a guess just 3 seconds out is Dillthedog.

In 2nd place 🥈 with a guess just 2 seconds out is SueW.

But for the second year running we had someone who was accurate to the exact second.

In 1st place 🥇 and winner of the 2023 Dr K Cup is PeteFastFeet. Please f mail me with your name and address and I will get your trophy sent out.

Thanks again to Fetch for his crazy algorithm thing and thanks to you all for taking part. See you again next year.

Apologies for the tagging error above. 2nd place 🥈 actually went to SooWoo!

About This Thread

2024 Instructions

Add the following race to your portfolio:

fetcheveryone.com/races/the-doctor-k-cup-10329609

Enter your predicted time by October 18th (the day before the run).

On the 19th October, run at least 5k WITHOUT LOOKING AT YOUR WATCH OR GETTING ANY PACING HELP!!!

RESULTS WILL BE POSTED HERE:

fetcheveryone.com/doctorkcup.php

Fetch will extract the results by looking at your benchmarks for 5k (so for your own sake, avoid tunnels, tall buildings, heavy tree cover, pylons etc). If you are running a local 5k loop, please add a bit on, just to make sure that your watch registers at least 5k's worth of data. But no peeking!

The person who is closest to their predicted time will win the 'Doctor K Cup' for one year.

NB Doctor K was a big parkrun fan - so you can do your run at parkrun, but ***PLEASE*** make sure you cover at least 5000 metres. A GPS watch reporting 5.00km will do so from 4995 metres onwards, but you MUST run at least 5000 metres or more. To avoid disappointment add an extra 10 seconds on to the end of your run, just to make sure.
