Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

The Doctor K Cup

1 lurker | 97 watchers
The seventh annual Doctor K Cup will take place on Saturday October 19th 2024

How to join in

Firstly, add the 2024 Doctor K Cup to your Fetch portfolio.

All you need is a GPS watch or app. On the day, RUN AT LEAST 5K WITHOUT LOOKING AT YOUR WATCH. The Fetch Benchmark system will pull out your fastest 5k from your run (so you can include it as part of your long run if you like). The person who gets closest to their prediction will be declared the winner (though the judges decision is final!).

It would be lovely if you could upload your 'K' pics to the gallery (make a K shape with your fingers) to help us remember Doctor K and all the Fetchies we have lost.

NB A GPS watch reporting 5.00km will do so from 4995 metres onwards, but you MUST run at least 5000 metres or more. To avoid disappointment add an extra 10 seconds on to the end of your run, just to make sure.

30th September at Bolton parkrun. It would be nice to have a pre race Fetch pic and me and Big Leggy are having breakfast afterwards if anyone wishes to join us. Cafe suggestions are very welcome as I don't know the area!

Maybe we could make this an annual event for such a legendary and well loved Fetch fella.

Making it an annual event sounds a fantastic idea. They do something similar at Sheringham parkrun in memory of a young guy called David. It's not my usual parkrun so I am not sure of all the details of David's run but it's very much done with the blessing of the parkrun core team - everyone is supposed to wear a football shirt that day I think - maybe for the Doctor K one in future everyone should wear a shirt to do with their favourite band/gig?

Sorry I won't be able to make it on the 30th but it's a great way to remember a wonderful Fetchie

I have my boy this Saturday, so I might not make it to a parkrun, but how about we make the last Saturday in *every* September Doctor K day?

Like it Fetch. I have a trophy at home that I have aquired from work as it was no longer in use.

Hows about this?

I get a plaque put on it to say something like;

DOCTOR K CELEBRATION PARKRUN CHALLENGE CUP

Anyone anywhere in the country who is a Fetchie can send me a estimated time of their parkrun and where they will run. They then have to run it naked (not literally, just no timing device will be ok) and cant be paced round. The person nearest to their time then gets to keep the trophy until the last Saturday in September 2018.

Im happy to pick up postage this year and cost of engraving.

What do you say?

How about they post a pic of themselves dropping a K at parkrun - it'll be a very visible celebration that will get new folks asking why we're doing it.

And perhaps it'll mean that people who can't get to a parkrun can still get involved. But then I don't know how you decide who to send the trophy to. Maybe your idea is best.

About This Thread

Maintained by Joopsy
2024 Instructions

Add the following race to your portfolio:

fetcheveryone.com/races/the-doctor-k-cup-10329609

Enter your predicted time by October 18th (the day before the run).

On the 19th October, run at least 5k WITHOUT LOOKING AT YOUR WATCH OR GETTING ANY PACING HELP!!!

RESULTS WILL BE POSTED HERE:

fetcheveryone.com/doctorkcup.php

Fetch will extract the results by looking at your benchmarks for 5k (so for your own sake, avoid tunnels, tall buildings, heavy tree cover, pylons etc). If you are running a local 5k loop, please add a bit on, just to make sure that your watch registers at least 5k's worth of data. But no peeking!

The person who is closest to their predicted time will win the 'Doctor K Cup' for one year.

NB Doctor K was a big parkrun fan - so you can do your run at parkrun, but ***PLEASE*** make sure you cover at least 5000 metres. A GPS watch reporting 5.00km will do so from 4995 metres onwards, but you MUST run at least 5000 metres or more. To avoid disappointment add an extra 10 seconds on to the end of your run, just to make sure.
