The Doctor K Cup

98 watchers
The seventh annual Doctor K Cup will take place on Saturday October 19th 2024

How to join in

Firstly, add the 2024 Doctor K Cup to your Fetch portfolio.

All you need is a GPS watch or app. On the day, RUN AT LEAST 5K WITHOUT LOOKING AT YOUR WATCH. The Fetch Benchmark system will pull out your fastest 5k from your run (so you can include it as part of your long run if you like). The person who gets closest to their prediction will be declared the winner (though the judges decision is final!).

It would be lovely if you could upload your 'K' pics to the gallery (make a K shape with your fingers) to help us remember Doctor K and all the Fetchies we have lost.

NB A GPS watch reporting 5.00km will do so from 4995 metres onwards, but you MUST run at least 5000 metres or more. To avoid disappointment add an extra 10 seconds on to the end of your run, just to make sure.

Thanks, Joopsy. I didn't know you had instigated this. Thanks! Great idea! As one of the foreign fetchies, I couldn't take part before so was delighted by this year's solution. However, I think it is probably best to return to the parkrun in future as that was Dr K's passion.

We were told how it would work and that we should run more than 5k to be sure. It also seemed necessary since without looking at our watches, how would we know we were done? I thought fetch's solution to include people who ran short was quite generous.

It's a bit of fun and a bit of serious reflection on runners we have lost. It's not a race, let alone an official race, and noone's times count for anything (maybe unofficial fetch wava).

I have just checked the results and I'm really pleased that they have been removed.

Thank you Fetch 😊

Thank you Joopsy for your original grand idea and to Fetch for finding a way to make it happen this year. It's such a Fetch way to remember those we have loved and lost. I had the good fortune to share my walk yesterday with two friends who I met through Fetch and parkrun many years ago. Having not seen either of them this year, it was incredibly special to be able to share the event with them and to have that as a reminder of how special Fetchies are and how so many of us have found genuine friendship via a website. Afterwards, I enjoyed reading the thread to hear about how everyone else took part. Thanks everyone x

thank you Fetch and Joopsy. Great to find a temporary way to do things when the world tried hard to prevent it. Well done to everyone who took part and especially to the winners (which is actually all of us)

Thank you both Joopsy and Fetch for putting your heads together and finding a way to continue this wonderful event. I really appreciate you giving your time up. I enjoyed taking part and watching the leaderboard update during the day.

Hopefully next year it can be a parkrun event once again.
Congratulations to the winners 😁

Thanks Fetch and Joopsy for the original idea that's kept going! It's the first time I've been able to do this as I don't usually get up for parkruns. :)

About This Thread

2024 Instructions

Add the following race to your portfolio:

fetcheveryone.com/races/the-doctor-k-cup-10329609

Enter your predicted time by October 18th (the day before the run).

On the 19th October, run at least 5k WITHOUT LOOKING AT YOUR WATCH OR GETTING ANY PACING HELP!!!

RESULTS WILL BE POSTED HERE:

fetcheveryone.com/doctorkcup.php

Fetch will extract the results by looking at your benchmarks for 5k (so for your own sake, avoid tunnels, tall buildings, heavy tree cover, pylons etc). If you are running a local 5k loop, please add a bit on, just to make sure that your watch registers at least 5k's worth of data. But no peeking!

The person who is closest to their predicted time will win the 'Doctor K Cup' for one year.

NB Doctor K was a big parkrun fan - so you can do your run at parkrun, but ***PLEASE*** make sure you cover at least 5000 metres. A GPS watch reporting 5.00km will do so from 4995 metres onwards, but you MUST run at least 5000 metres or more. To avoid disappointment add an extra 10 seconds on to the end of your run, just to make sure.
