I’m taking a cautious approach as I’ve not done much and want to see what I’m doing. If it goes well I’ll repeat everything

I used my bench instead of lying on the floor because I can! Ozzy cat chewed my hair and observed!

Weights were low but enough!

As long as they were enough - we need to challenge ourselves, but it's good to get movement and patterns down pat to begin with.

By the 3rd set I knew I was doing exercise

But I go from 3.5kg to 6kg which is a big jump I think
So made sure I did slow movements and focused on form

Yeah, that IS a big jump. And 3.5s aren't exactly nothing - esp if you used them for the last part of the session - all those flys are tough. It was the first session I did (I didn't want to start with a leg day as I had a very energetic 1.5 hours of dance that evening) and I noted that by the time I got to the shoulder press it went like this: started with pair of 4.5s but was knackered and had to keep moving down 3g 2nd set, 2.5kg final set.

Mind you I do think that a pair of 5kg DBs that you like are a good all purpose addition to kit - and not toooo expensive

Day one done, Shark the Herald Angel

I guessed that I might be ok with 8kg dumbbells for most of the exercises and that seemed OK. It'll be interesting to see how my legs feel tomorrow. One thing I noticed is that I couldn't do lunges as far as CG could because of the slightly restricted range of motion in my right hip. Otherwise I managed ok and I enjoyed the session.

That's good to hear Ness. Strong lady!

I was very pleased that after the VERY heavy/hard working glutes session I did late yesterday afternoon (masses of clams, hip thrusts and lunges) my dance class this morning was absolutely fine. It was at 9am and very dynamic with floor and jumps and generally leaping about and changing direction and centre of balance.

I think CGs sessions are helping rather than hindering my dancing, which is good to know.

Those Bulgarian split squats are great for challenging balance. As are most lunges.

You can only do what your hip allows Ness - you are impressively fit! xxx

Thanks, Sharkie. Mr Ness came into the conservatory while I was doing the lunges and he was concerned but I did take care. I will slowly work through the program on Saturdays. I think it'll be a great addition to my exercise routine.

About This Thread

Caroline Girvan - tiny but tough, sweet but strong.

Here's a thread rather in the manner of the Shred craze that swept Fetchland some years ago, or perhaps more recently (and less bossily) Adriene's 30 Days of Yoga each year. I found Caroline Girvan via geordiegirl (ta, GG!) and am well impressed with her workouts. I'm currently on Day 27 of her 30 day Iron Series and have STUCK TO IT. Wonders will never cease, I was beginning to despair of the likelihood of me getting any sort...
