Oh I'm interested in that. (I lurk on here to steal wisdom. My autistic 13yo has not managed a single day of school since the return after half term) |

My 17.5 year old has just done her first unaccompanied flight from Stockholm to London and back. Still can't get the hang of putting dirty washing straight into the laundry basket. |

Brain dump T12 loves performing. He plays cornet, sings & acts. No stagefright (great), reluctant to practice, no apparent fear/awareness of getting it (lines, music etc) wrong & affecting other people & the whole show; that stuff is important but he's going to have fun [as it should be I think]. [I might be doing him a disservice due to my own fears.] The groups he is in (music, theatre) are inclusive and amateur (professional teachers but light touch). This is great. Having seen an advert for auditions for kids to be in Oliver with a combined adult/youth more formal group, I started wondering if we should be going for the "next level" if he wants to, or stay in our comfort zone and enjoy. I can't ask his theatre teacher as it's show week 😂. Probably best to talk to her and not rush into anything? Sorry. Any thoughts gratefully received. |

What do you think he would say? I have a close friend whose two daughters started off in Stagecoach and have both made musical theatre their careers. They have got so much from performing over the years. And I met this friend in a youth orchestra that also gave me a lot of amazing experiences and joy. |

I think if he fancies it, it is quite an exciting thing to try. Giving it a go is a great technique. Is there anyone else in the group who would also try out?

Hi LW. I have found over the years that the best thing is not to make any assumptions about the rights and wrongs of my son doing any activity. All I can do is alert him to the possibility and let him make the choice. He often makes a choice I'm not expecting and it's usually the right one. Not sure if that is helpful in this instance.
