What WW said. I remember my first sub-3, at Edinburgh in 2008. There was a sustained 10-15 mph (16-24 kph) headwind for 15 miles along the coast where a group of us all aiming for sub-3 rotated so that one runner ran a mile at the front, sheltering the others and then dropped to the rear before moving forwards as each took their turn. Worked really well. |

Yes Duncan, i'll focus on the think that i can control! Yes, i deviated a bit from the right mindset Windsor Wool, i'll get back with a new focus and stop hoping that the weather magically would change. (as i had for the last few days) It's a small marathon though, about 400 i think, and with a good time for me, i would actually be in the top probably, but i "know" a runner that might go for around 3h Maybe maybe that will work. Other than that i don't think there will be to many people in that tempo. And i read your blog, thanks for that, it helped with the demons a bit |

Bowman - having read your post my initial response was 'you can't do anything about it so no point in worrying'. Yes, it will make going sub 3 harder but you'll either do it or you won't. If you don't no one will die and you can have another try at a later date.

Yes that’s usually my philosophy too LMH. It’s just the thoughts having a go And yes, I’ll have to adjust my plans accordingly. |

Having seen Velociraptor 's suggestion, I have added WW's blog post to the sidebar. I'd also like to ask if anyone else has suggestions for relevant articles, blog posts (their own or those of others), other things that may be inspirational or useful in the quest for a 2:xx. |

Cracking read WW! Was really pleased to see you nailed the sub 3 when I rejoined fetch properly recently but other than seeing you’d done it a couple of times now didn’t dig into the journey. Bowman - can only agree with LMH - just need to choose the moment to adjust your plans if needed. Not too early if there’s going to be a solid chance of changing to have the wind behind you etc. - you can’t allow your head to write you off without giving your body a fair chance! Plus - weather forecasts always dramatise, don’t they? |

As for Bowman's marathon.....I dunno, you can only try to run smartly and do your best. Sometimes conditions just make it impossible, but a decent near miss would still be a big step forward - there's a lot of headroom for a new PB. Get behind someone in the headwind sections - or share the work if you really have to

Bit of worry and nerves is normal Bowman 🇸🇪 but as the others have said all you can do once the race starts is run to the best of your ability. Good luck.

thanks Miser, those were good times. It's a shame that the COVID period cut short what I was hoping to be my purple patch but I suppose that there are many others who suffered in far more serious ways than missing out on a few races. All the best bowman. Control what you can, that's all you can do. |
