Miser
Daz - I stopped running when we had our first child. Running slots became very limited and went to my wife who benefited far more from the mental health benefits of running etc. I'd also been fighting niggles for a while so motivation essentially dwindled for quite a few years. Having been fit before, it's really come back amazingly quickly - especially over the last 16 weeks with decent training (following a plan, actually doing speedwork (which beyond tempo runs I've never done) and being consistent). Brunski - In this previous running life I ran a couple of fairly disastrous marathons. Partly I think this was training based (lack of speedwork - particularly long runs were all with my wife, so essentially easy) and fueling (didn't really bother!). Regardless, it's built a healthy respect for the distance centered in not going out too fast. Both marathons this year have been much better experiences with the feeling of passing through the field in the second half a proper joy. The other thing I've recently stumbled across is using 3 mile laps. This really takes the stress out of hitting pace each mile - gives a bit more time for good/bad lapses, profile and congestion to even out. Mainly though - very lucky to have the fitness come back faster than my aspirations! |

Thanks Miser and great that you got into shape quicky. I like the sound of the 3 mile lap splits, glad it worked out for you.

All my hopes for a race with ok conditions is now out the window. This will take some mind exercises to get back on the positive track again, but i'll also settle on a mind that isn't terrified for the upcoming task.. π |

Get your head in the game Bowman πΈπͺ, it can be done with the right focus and determination. Read this one for some inspiration π. I think using groups wisely is really important in the wind. fetcheveryone.com/blog-share.php?id=373789 |
