DT Japanese peeps are lovely. Like to help foreigners and practice their English. If you look helpless or confused in a station they are eager to help. I haven't been to Tokyo for 20 years but spent a fair chunk of time there on business trips. Hotel rooms are affordable but very small- check room sizes before you book.

Hello folks. I’m emerging from under a winter rock and ready to fire up some marathon training. Can I get sidebarred as a London 2:45 attempt please @jda No idea if that’s feasible. My main goal this year is the elusive consistency target. If I can string 6 months of 200 mile months together I’ll be a new runner… I’m going to start by dialling down the ambition. Convincing myself that 50 mile weeks are wins even when marathon training and will hopefully allow for more regular sessions. |

Sidebar me for Manchester 2'59 , Trainings going well so far, solid mileage. Dialing in my marathon pace. Some talk from the young guns at my club about doing more track. Ive found previously i can do track and get very fit, but i reach a level then burn out whereas i can sustain a whole marathon block concentrating on my marathon pace, ie variation in the sessions slightly quicker/ slightly slower and 3+3+3 at mp and progression runs. I used to do a lot of hills but my knees dont like that now. Hope everyone is building well for Spring.

I don't do much track during the marathon block for Spring. But in May I switch to the track season and compete in the masters league. By late summer I'm mixing track and autumn marathon training. If you want more speed, instead of track try racing a parkrun flat out every week.

Think ill stay off track until after marathon. I do a quick Parkrun at the start/finish of the block, hopefully a noticeable change in the way i feel running it and the time, 🙏quicker. Last Parkrun i did was the one Nick Griggs set the PR worlds fastest.

@OO61, the distance group that I train with don't usually switch over to the track until the end of March as we tend to focus on cross country training, even then we tend to do one track session and one grass/road session per week. Although my plan is based around my target time and my age (and Garmin Connect), I tend to ignore the Tuesday and Thursday suggestions and go with what my coach (Barry Royden) recommends, his experience and guidance is invaluable. I ran 2:59:28 last April and am hoping to get nearer to 2:55 this time, frustratingly it's the day before my 59th birthday so the age grading won't be as good as it would be 24 hours later... |

Sounds like a good plan Alun. That would be a great time for your age. My pb is 2:54:57 set in 2023 just after turning 60. No chance I'll beat that but anything sub 3 in London will be pleasing indeed.
