Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I'm going to run the Rhyl Half tomorrow, where I hope to get close to 1:40 but I'm not sure if I can beat it this time since I had a rather slow 10k last weekend and a hard fell run on Tuesday. I'll use it to see where I stand so that I can plan my training for my definite attempt in Lake Vyrnwy in September.

Good luck, Tipsku. Aim for a slight neg split and if you feel strong late in the race you never know.

Got my PB today, but no sub 1:40. It was too windy for that. Miles 2 to 8 against the wind were about 15-20 sec too slow. By mile 9 I figured out that I was behind my PB pace and at mile 10 I had the proof, about 20 sec outside the PB. So I legged it really hard down the prom and finished in a new PB by 22 sec.

I'm now very confident that I can beat the 1:40 in a race that is not on the coast line. On the coast you always battle the wind. Lake V should be good in September, I'm really looking forward to it.

Have to agree with Mousey there, I've not run a flat half for over a year, but the secret is miles, decent long runs, just build up, make sure you do 12-15 every week, than add a bit of pace to it occasionally....

A pleasing 1.42.03 in the hilly Basingstoke half last Sunday. I will have a go at sub 1.40 at Gosport in November.

Managed 1.39.45 at Cardiff yesterday. I did run 1.39.51 at GNR last year, but it's not an official PB course..so I suppose I finally got my sub 1.40 PB yesterday.. It was a nice flat course, and I felt a controlled sense of uncomfort throughout..km splits were fairly even, I did slow down a little towards the end..
