Wow, that's some brilliant running becca, Flanker, Arjin and Nellers!
I never thought I'd join you speedy lot on this thread. After getting a 1:43 in September I decided to train for sub 1:40. I've got two attempts in early spring, Wrexham Half on 16 February and, if that should fail, Anglesey Half on 2 March.

well done Dave! that's brilliant!
I didn't manage it on either date above. In Wrexham, the runners were sent the wrong way at the first crossroads which resulted in 13.8 miles so no chance of getting a sub 1:40. In Anglesey rain, waves at the beach front and gale force winds slowed us down quite a bit. I still hung onto a new PB in 1:42:41 - on a better day the 1:40 would have been possible, as I was consistently running 7:30-40, but on the miles against the wind I slowed down to 8:00-15. I might try again in Rhyl on 29 June. Flat course on the beach promenade - if the wind is not too strong it looks good.

Well done, Dave!
tipsku - you will get there soon, most definitely. You just need the right conditions on the day (and not be sent the wrong way!)

Thanks both, that's rough at Wrexham. Not good at all. Unlucky
I had no expectation of sub 1 40 ( and a 3 second pb). In training I was doing 2 mile intervals at pb pace and was struggling. Strange how it's hard / impossible to hold race pace in training

Oh and I agree, if you can do 1:42 in bad conditions, you'll crack it soon

I have the same problem Dave, I struggle to do race pace in training (e.g. doing 4x 2 mile HMP, I'm usually about 5 sec per mile slower than in a race) but then I nail it in a race if the conditions allow it. It may have to do with the added adrenaline or with people around you that push you to your limits.
And congratulations on your unexpected PB every little helps!

I knocked 5 1/2 minutes off my time earlier this year - from 1:41:XX to 1:36:XX - with plenty of miles and a weekly tempo. It's an eminently achievable goal, best of luck to you
