Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

NEt downhill and start and finish are too far apart. Same reasons that Boston isn't an accepted Marathon course for World Record purposes.

Nellers, sorry for the delayed response. Yes, I had negative splits in Rhyl but that was also due to the strong headwind from miles 2 to 8. I did manual laps so the splits are not even as some mile markers were 1.2 miles apart and others only 0.8 miles. So I'm using the pace for the splits, not the split time itself. I compare them to the splits of my more recent PB attempt. I recently got even closer to 1:40, clocking 1:40:04 in Lake Vyrnwy. The splits were again negative. I put both races next to each other for comparison.

Rhyl - Lake Vyrnwy
1) 7:33 7:43
2) 7:41 7:41
3) 7:51 7:43
4) 7:51 7:55

5) 8:00 7:52
6) 8:00 7:46
7) 8:09 7:32
8) 8:03 7:45
9) 7:42 7:27
10) 7:41 7:41
11) 7:36 7:28
12) 7:49 7:49
13) 7:39 7:17
14) 7:14 6:46 (pace for the final bit)
1:42:19 vs. 1:40:04

I sprinted for the sub 1:40 but it wasn't meant to be this time. Both halfs are flat, bar a few smaller inclines in Lake V at the beginning and at the end and one bump about halfway. I got boxed in at the start as people didn't go to their starting pens so in the sub 1.40 pen I found I was behind some charity runners who were going along at 10 m/m or slower in a group, blocking the faster runners.

The 1.40 barrier will fall in the next half, only 5 seconds to go now :)
This said, I've got another 'almost there' experience this year, the 10k PB is 45.09 so 10 seconds to go there. I hope 2015 is going to be my year.

Only a matter of having good conditions on the day and you'll easily go sub 1.40 tipsku! Considering your marathon and 10km PBs are better than mine, this is just a frustrating anomaly that will be corrected sometime soon.

Yeh, the GNR for all its intricacies seems much tougher than the Cardiff half, but didn't count for a PB. In fact, for even more complicated reasons, my PB was officially 1.42 before Sunday, even though I ran a 1.40 at GNR 2013, 1.41 GNR at 2102, 1.40 at Liverpool in 2011 (that year Liverpool hafl didn't get a UKA licence for the race, even though it was officially measured).

Good running, 32 seconds is not narrow at all! I've run 2x under 1.40 and still not got to the heady heights of 1.39.28! I hope you enjoyed yourself afterwards!!

Thanks, monsenb1 :-)

It was a bit of a Fetchfest so lots of fun too.

This might not sound like much of a celebration but there is a fishfinger sandwich with my name on it tonight and that'll do me.
