I think the north coast of Devon is getting a battering Shades. I follow a local weather thing on Facebook and he posted this. People commenting they’re without power around Barnstaple.

LATEST STRONGEST GUSTS @ 05:55

As you can see, we are seeing again gusts above 80mph along the north coast at present.

Elsewhere, 60mph to 79mph currently, still with the north coast seeing the strongest winds, hence the Red warning by the Met.

Some are commenting that this isn't as bad as Storm Bert.

The wind gusts associated with storm Bert were no higher than 72.2mph.

Storm Bert brought south or south-westerly winds, whereas Storm Darragh is bringing north or north-westerly gales, so those especially along the south coast will not feels it's full force.

Please keep safe. We could still see gusts in excess of 90mph along the north coast over the coming hours.

Although it's ok to say, this is nothing in comparison to Storm Bert for those not really feeling the full force of this storm. Think of those who are being battered currently.

Power cuts are now starting to be reported, and there are blocked roads from falling trees across the region.

Only travel if you have to, and if so, give plenty of time and drive, knowing you may need to suddenly stop, so keep speed down.

Kind regards

Dean
The UKSWSC Team.

Just checking the parkruns and Torbay (green tick), my local, stands out quite a lot, as all the rest are cancelled.

Big G - the north coast of Devon and Somerset is included in Wales red warning. Needless to say both Severn bridges are closed.

Hope WP is OK and not suffering a power cut, 20,000 homes without power in Wales.

I did fill a flask last night before I went to bed and charged my phone too, just in case..

Torbay certainly stands out on the parkrun map. IMHO they should cancel to deter folk from travelling which they'll do if their local is cancelled. There may be no trees there but there are a lot of trees alongside our roads.

The alert came in twice at 7pm and at 3 am twice in English and Welsh.

It started at 9pm winds at 65 mph and torren tial winds.Drama as OH car would not start so had to go up to help him home in electric wheelchair.Got cases in car as back door opened but nothing else. A job for rac later today if weather eases.
It is 80mph at the moment, we have had 2 power cuts.

Strangely I feel a rest day as I am not going out in that😁

Hope everyone is safe and well.

WP - 3 a.m. eek. What a nightmare getting OH home, but glad he's finally home safely. The car can wait.

Hope you have no more power cuts. Take care.

Nightmare there WP. Glad he’s home safely though.

Torbay has confirmed they’re going ahead so it’ll be interesting to see how many turn up.

Teeny weeny bit windy up here too. Not been out mind you can just hear the rain bouncing of the window. Majority of the park runs are cancelled for various reasons. Flooding, tree covered, ok to run but roads pants (thats my one and i have to go out later.....)

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon.

Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
