Ian - your homework studying the route will pay off, no surprises.

Will be interesting to see how you run at Barcelona with your ultra training plus strength work.

Keith - first run of the year! 😱 Hope you can find your shoes. But you have had more ice to deal with than us.

Shades-Hoping it goes well, but it's hard to say as I'll be doing a very long run 2 weeks before and won't be tapering too much, but might change please if the next few weeks go great.

Ian - you don't really want to lose training time by tapering more than a couple of days. Ditto after the race, no taking a week off this time. 🤣

Short recovery run day after marathon, then a rest day, then back into training.

Keith - well done, that's a decent distance for first run for a while.

Keith hope the run goes well!

Big G well done on your 2nd place, these winter marathons seem a good idea when we enter them, then by the time they come round we remember how crap the weather can be.

Gipfel welcome to the forum, well done on the Berlin ballot, it seems to get tougher each year.

WP hopefully your turning the corner,
Good to read you cat is recovering.

Shades hope the niggles aren’t too bad and the run goes well tomorrow.

Rcouture great stuff getting a decent run in on work time. I enjoy sneaking a few miles when ATW are paying me to marshal.

Ian, glad I’m not the only one who tries to learn each step of races. Some great videos on comrades out there.

Louy welcome to fetch! Hope 2025 is kinder to you and your family

Back from another hiatus, been a varied start this year. What didn’t help was our boiler broke and were without heat for 8 days, it was awful waking up and the house being -5, didn’t run during this period as just didn’t feel like it.

Abstained from alcohol since NYE, and following a food plan Since the 6th. No fizzy drinks, crisps, chocolate, sweet/ sweetener snacks. Using proper food and focusing on balanced meals and snacks. Remove added sugar but get it naturally, similar with fats. I’ve managed to follow it and been disciplined. It’s not meant to be a fast loss but a 12 week plan with a coach and a group of 40 that we can chat on an app. Needed to do something as I wasn’t making the start line of SDW50 I’d tipped the 15 stone mark on the scales (I’m only 5ft 7). 5lb lost already.

Rob - awful time for the boiler to break down. I don't think I'd get out for a run either if I didn't have a warm home to return too.

That's an impressive start to your healthier 2025 and SDW50 training. Helpful to have the group support if your willpower wavers.

You've always looked taller to me than 5'7" in your photos.

What date is SDW50?

Rob-Well done on the start to the year, hope it continues.
Shades-That is basically the plan, there's no real difference for me as long as I can get 3:40,which I'm hoping to be able to do with minimal taper.

Got something to say?

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon.

Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
