Shades-I known there's definitely a couple of bad hills in the first half,it has around 4k ft of elevation and I think nearly all of that is in the first 36m,then over 2k ft drop in 18 miles

Gipfel-Great news on Berlin,as with most races some of us have done it before,it was my first major and I had a great time, even in the heavy rain.
Comrades is my goal race for this year.
7 after work today, brings up 33 for the last 4 days, away on Tuesday for a few days so thinking about doing my long run Monday, will see how the weather is Sun/Mon.

Ian - you're back on track with the mileage. Let's hope we have minimal ice for the rest of the winter.

Running rest day for me today. Gym later.

Gipfel - I’ve done Berlin the last two years and love it. No ballot place this year but hoping to do it again some other way.

Ian - Nice mileage

Cheeky 20 miler yesterday morning during working hours as had no meetings. Will try and fit in long runs on Fridays when I can as I take the girls to music school on Saturdays which means long runs in the dark afterwards in winter. Anyway wasn’t a great run as cold and very slow as sluggish and tired from 70 miles over 7 days. Also got an umpteenth sore throat/bug this season which so far appears minor.

Treadmill supposedly arriving Tuesday

Rcouture - cheeky 20 miler,🫢 impressive you managed to fit that in. Time management is obviously one of your finer skills. Not surprised you're tired, hope you can have an easier weekend and get over that bug.

Have you chosen an autumn marathon as you didn't get into Berlin?

Great news on the treadmill.

Had a good upper body gym session. No Stairmaster today but 10% incline walk on the treadmill, calf niggling so only did 10 minutes. Will tape calf up tomorrow morning before my run.

First day I am back on my normal food for breakfast and lunch-this maybe the sign I will be back on the road sooner than I think :)

WP - that's really good news, once you can eat normally again it will make for

a speedier recovery.

Rcouture-Love the 20 miler in work time.
Shades-I think by the time of Comrades I'll know the route inside out,I have watched a lot of videos on the course amd as it gets closer I'm sure I'll watch more.
Did exercises straight after running yesterday and felt my legs were sore today,it was always going to be a rest day ready for my long run tomorrow.

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon.

Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
