WP - how are you today?

10 miles, looked miserable and cold but it was OK and a bit milder than expected. Lots of runners and cyclists out this morning. No kingfisher though, water was too high.

50 miles for the week. 😁

Nice running there Rcouture.

Robert, bad news about the boiler - very bad timing. Is it fixed now? Good luck with the weight loss as well.

Well done on your first run of the year, Keith!

Shades, great news on your weight loss too.

I did 7 miles today with parkrun, and then 7 miles this morning. Both weren’t good runs though as I had stomach issues on both after around 5 miles, so not sure what has caused that, as I generally feel okay. Rest day tomorrow in any case, so hopefully okay on Tuesday.

Big G - perhaps you've picked up a bit of a stomach bug, hope that settles down now.

Another good week for you though mileage wise?

38.5 this week Shades, which I’m happy with after last Sunday’s marathon. I hadn’t had a mileage goal, but that’s not too bad. Hopefully stomach issue goes away and then I can get back to 50-55ish next week. 5 weeks until Seville!

There were loads of runners out today. Probably 30 or so in singles, twos, and threes etc. Then when I got to Torquay, there were two groups of around 25, and one had 3 Trotters in it, including Ewan W. There is a local clothing retailer here (VX3, who Motleys get their kit from) and they do ‘run clubs’ each weekend, I think, stopping for coffee afterwards. I had known about them but have never been along.

Shades: I actually feel worse today not even gone for a walk today.

Tenby Holiday owner rang me and her daughter who is in the military Police had it 4 weeks and very ill with it! She is young ,fit and healthy. I had hoped to be back running maybe today but looks like maybe it will be another week.

Great to see another 50 mile week.

Big G - I've been seeing Ewan out training the last few weeks, on one of my midweek runs. I don't think he recognises me in the dark but always says 'hello' as all good runners do. I saw his name on the NDVM entry list but I wouldn't be surprised if he's doing another marathon earlier, Seville or Barcelona perhaps?

That sounds like another useful group to run with, I think once the coffee (and cake) is mentioned, you're interested 😋

WP - sorry to hear you're feeling worse. Has your cough gone? Absolutely no running while you have a cough, that will only prolong it.

Keith - the DOMS won't happen next time, as long as you don't leave it so long in between runs😉

I suspect the late day running then basically doing nowt for rest of day didn't help plus it was more up and down than i had expected.

My italian meal was noce a tad small though as i was hungry driving home and i off course had 3 courses ;)

Shades, I think they don’t do too long distances. I think it’s groups for 5K, 8K and 10K. But in the past I’d considered joining them part way through a longer run, but I’ve never actually done it, and had forgotten about it until I saw them out today. I don’t think they loop back or anything but they publish the routes in advance and I guess people just form small groups within the larger group. Good to see so many out. Pretty sure it’s free but you have to sign up to a mailing list, where I guess they try and keep you ‘informed’ of their kit! In fairness though, I really like my Motleys kit. It is good quality and fits well. Simon gets the orders periodically and then goes up and picks up the order to save postage for everyone, but I’ve only got one shirt (Motleys aren’t affiliated and as far as I know he has no interest in becoming affiliated, and most members are with other clubs anyway, including himself).

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon.

Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
