Ian - 55 miles. That's good.
Big G - congratulations on the car purchase. Good to get it all sorted out.
WP - how are you and OH getting on with your electric car ?
On Friday whilst out on my run, I actually saw a car being charged, charger was in a pub car park. A rare sight around here 🤣

Shades-Yes it was good week, and importantly I fitted it in ok,and don't feel tired from it so should be OK to increase. 4lb lost in 3 weeks, and that includes holiday week so a good start on that front.

Great loss especially in a short time Ian.
Shades: Electric car we have a faulty battery so unless you drive for say 10 miles, every few days it dies and needs AA.It is a pain if honest prefer our old car.

WP - that's not good. Will the warranty cover a replacement battery?
Meanwhile you'll just have to go out more often and further away.
Hope you're feeling less tired now.

WP hope the car is covered and or not too expensive to fix. I’d have thought somewhere on the stick in the other room there will be a way of finding pretty much any sport.
Ian that’s a great start to your weightloss. Have you got a target weight/ time to get there.
Shades good news on the race nutrition and the 50 miles for the week. I did Thames meander which is a Hermes race in 2015, remember seeing David Ross was a Uk rep/ ambassador for Comrades.
Gipfel 5 mile loops sound much better than a lot of races which is 5.3km… 8 laps for a marathon you start going insane!
Big G those 7 year warranties are worth their weight in gold, not only you’re covered but also from a sales point of you, if the garage is saying they will honour their cars for 7 years then they aren’t flogging a dead horse 😂. Well done on the consistent period of training, tougher to do at this time of year.

Watford half</u
I set on 2 targets 2hr and 2:05, planning to hit half way around the hour.
It’s about a 40 min drive on a Sunday morning, managed to find somewhere to park close to the start, it was freezing which helped keeping the start/ park area not too muddy, picked up number, queued for the loo and dropped bag off without any issues, took my place near the 2 hr pacers and off we went.
It had a big event feel with 1500 runners , I kept my pace sensible in the first couple of miles, started to think of race tactics, planned to run the whole race including the hills, the first hill was around 3miles in, got to the top and my legs were like jelly, when it came to the next hill at 5 miles it was short and steep, decided to walk and the 2 hour pacers passed before sprinting past them on the downhill. They passed again on the gradual hill to the midway point, I hit half way in 1hr 30secs I was on plan for sub 2hrs.
The 2nd half was easier (on paper) than the first half banking time on the first mile downhill but found myself walking on hills and losing the time. It was my longest run since Stevenage marathon and fastest since halstead in 2023. I felt pretty comfortable throughout and would tease myself that I could push on and sneak a sub 2 when I was running well.
Back into the park for the final 2km, the hill in the park seemed to drag for miles, also could see the finish line about 300m at the end but couldn’t make up the time and my calf had a slight niggle. Finished in 2:01:09.
Pretty happy with the result, 6 weeks until a flat 20 miler where I hope to build on and go sub 3.- 3:05

Rob-Sounds like a well executed race, well done.Target for weight is 7-14lbs by June. WP-It is lucky you have the AA,have to watch the renewal cost if you keep having them out. Southampton marathon has sold out this year also, road running is definitely booming at the minute.

Rob, well done - sounds as if the race went really well - not far off your A goal and smashing the B goal and feeling comfortable for most of it!
Ian and Shades - that's excellent weekly mileage.
WP - rubbish about your RHR being up again and feeling tired - I hope you feel better soon.
Big G - I like your thorough pre-Seville assessment. I'm sure you'll have a good race whatever approach you take!
9 miles for me today - a bit drizzly but fairly mild, so nice running weather really - 34.5 miles this week, which I'm pleased with. I've had a knee niggle recently (bursitis in the inside knee that I've had once before, about a year ago), but it's been gradually improving, and I'm hoping I've finally got rid of it. Calf raises seem to be the magic cure - I saw a physio about my knee when it happened before and was recommended them as part of the rehab, and I've since also read that Steve Cram swears by them and was doing 500 a day at one point!
I don't think I dare to commit to marathon mileage for my March event quite yet, but I'll see how I feel in a couple of weeks and possibly change my mind

I've just been reading about the Tralee ultra - the 50k is 5 laps, which doesn't sound too bad, and I see it also goes past the Blennerville Windmill and along the river for a bit - I got the bus from Tralee to Dingle when I went and remember it being really nice round there! But Connemara looks truly stunning and is now 100% on my list. The ultra is only 10 euros more than the half marathon, so it would be very tempting to go for that...
