Big G - you have recovered well from your marathon.

It's not the first few miles of DD that are the problem 😉

WP - apart from the ice this must be the worst weather for asthma/cough, foggy and cold. Hope you're a little better today.

Fetch has put in the facility not to lose posts now if you need/want to flick back to a previous page.

I am just so fed up of it at the moment. But yes I think things are improving a little. But you are right I coughed non stop on walk not good weather really.

That is handy to know about going back a page and not losing your post.

Shades, they’re talking about doing the whole DD route in chunks, but yes, the first few miles are just the warmup :)

WP - I used to work with a guy that had COPD and when the weather was like this he couldn't even come to work as it affected his breathing so much.

Big G - yes, you mentioned before that the Motleys would run the whole of DD in chunks, I did say I was tempted to join you. I remember a few years ago the Mavericks did a run over the last 5 miles, I said that's a waste of time unless you've already done at least a 20 miler beforehand. Nothing replaces that tiredness from Postbridge to Princetown and IMHO pointless running that on fresh legs.

I've just entered North Dorset 😀. Ever the optimist, put a finish time of 5:50🤣. The time limit is 6:30.

That’s good about North Dorset, Shades.

The only thing with the save feature here is that I think it saves every few seconds (maybe 10-20secs or so), so if you type something and then immediately go back a page or two, you may lose a few words. I did prefer the RW feature as you could save it yourself at any point.

Yes, there is a time delay on the save.

Alternatively select and copy what's already typed. Then paste if not saved on return.

Those first few miles of DD are great, well about the first 10k anyway then that hill 😢

I'm still trying figure how I'm going to do 20m of downhill running, some of it quite steep, after 36 to get there.
8 after work today, felt good, tshirt and short weather again, did wear gloves though to start as it was a little nippy.

Ian - 'that hill' is like trying to drive with the handbrake on.

That's a lot of downhill running. When you're doing your hilly training loops you'll need to start pushing the pace on the downhill sections to give those quads a good thrashing 😭

I can feel your pain...

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon.

Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
