Big G - probably what I hate most about London marathon is the noise. I'd rather have an inquisitive cow peering over a hedge at me.

A year out may revive your interest.

Vrap - Solway looks great but I can't face the very long drive from Devon to get there.

WP - good idea to book your hotel early. I'm not booking anything yet, will wait to see if they do the park and ride again. Plus I'll have the car so flexible about where to stay if I don't drive up on the day.

Must book my Connemara hotel tomorrow.

I think we'll be making the most of the trip and having a few days around Newport.

WP - glad you got your preferred hotel. I often rebook direct with hotel as long as I don't have to pay upfront.

The park and ride is amazing, I do hope it's available again.

Exactly I chose to not pay up front and have the cancellation ten months is a long time. So handy to leave hotel 15 minutes before start if I want and my own toilet.Although they had portaloos across from hotel.

Looks like lots of marathons have been selected today, good to see.
As expected I got a no also, not overly bothered, would like to as I know OH would much prefer me racing with her.
Poor run tonight, just over 5 and couldn't get my legs moving at all, write it off and go again.

Shades I’ve seen people dressed up as cows at London if you want cows 😂 I’m sure you’ll see sheep in Newport.

WP well done for getting accommodation booked before all the London marathon rejects jump in.

Big G heard a lot of people saying it was too noisy last year. The pride section had a number of moans and people saying there was a potent weed smell in parts.

Ian shame you won’t be able to run London with the oh.

Vrap always good to make a trip out of a marathon, unfortunately the OH has put her foot down and said no marathons and combining it with holidays as it ruins it for her.

15 ballots and finally in, forgot about the ballot, didn’t have London in race plans, didn’t remember to refresh my email every 30’seconds and went to lunch and there was an email saying you’re in.

Off up north to Manchester for a few days, hoping to get out for a few runs between work and socialising and the athletics on Sunday.

Rob - congratulations, after 15 attempts you certainly deserve a place.

Wrong sort of cows, thank you. Wait until you do DD and you may have to herd them off the road to get past. The sheep will get out of your way 😉

Bad luck Ian, but seems you're not too disappointed. Will you put in for a club place, if you're eligible?

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon.

Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
