WP - I think the new Ghost have switched to a lower drop anyway.

I'm surprised the podiatrist didn't recommend the NB1080's as they are more cushioned than the 880's. However the newer 1080's have now also switched to a lower drop, think it's 6mm now. V12 and older are an 8mm drop.

I've had a pair of 880's (they're 10mm drop) and they're good but I found them quite clumpy and heavy, the 1080's a much more comfortable shoe, and I retired them early.

Cal - I love my Novablasts too, my favourite shoe. But at 8mm drop too low for WP unfortunately.

@Cotty67 I may well have, do you remember if you used it?

Just a note about the NB, as I used the 1080s a lot for achilles issues because the heel tab used to flare away from the heel and I felt less pressure in that area using them. But on the latest model the design was changed in that key area around the achilles so I’ve not tried the new model as from pics and reviews it looks more bulky. I probably had around 6 pairs of 1080s starting, I think, from version 10.

Just 5 today as not feeling too spritely for some reason.

Thanks Cal as Shades said it is too low for me.

Big G: thanks for info I don't think I would really like NB.Why oh why mess with good shoes!

Shades: New shoes arriving today.

Thank you for all shoe information you guys are a mind of information between you :)

I have worn V9 for two days as afraid to wear V10 or 11 and make Achilles worse.

WP - that's prompt service delivering your shoes today.

I know some runners use heel lifts in their shoes to alleviate achilles discomfort.

I tried them once when I had calf problems during the 10 in 10. I couldn't get used to them so removed them after a few miles.

That's annoying about the 1080,they were going to be my Comrades shoe.
Might get an older pair when they go on sale.

Ian - I have v12 of the 1080's. Usual 8mm heel drop and I've been very impressed with them. You should be able to get them reduced now, I've had mine over a year now.

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon.

Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
