I remember maybe twenty years ago a friend creating a fake club membership card with photo to use for a flight to Aberdeen...

I was worried to be honest, I only realised when sat at the gate and had to fess up to my work colleague. I was annoyed as I had reminded myself mentally to get the passport the night before and forgot I did have a photo of it on my phone plus my work ID badge but EasyJet only asked for my boarding pass both on the flight there and back. On a related note, my boss a few weeks before had flown to Bristol and back and got there fine (from Glasgow). On the way at Bristol security his bag and he were pulled aside and they asked what was in it. Work laptop was the answer. Security then opened it and pulled out a large kitchen knife. He was very apologetic and explained the week before he had baked a cake and taken it to work but had clearly forgotten it was in his work bag. The knife was confiscated and he was allowed to fly. Clearly Glasgow allow you to fly with knives ![]() |

Last time I flew out of Glasgow you'd not have got a knife through to our plane, lots of checks and also 3 large gentlemen quizzing quite a few people in the departure lounge and asking to see their documents. The colleague who I was travelling with was a bit worried as he hadn't brought any id with him (This was pre 9/11 and the like), he was quite relieved when I pointed out that all the ones getting quizzed were actually Irish so he was safe enough with his broad doric accent if they came and asked.

yes and as it is based on the existence of my passport it ought to be ok, similarly with the bus-pass.

[Re Bazoaxe's post above - my partner was able to fly to Australia via Singapore and take three internal flights before security at Uluru found the mini-swiss knife nestling in the bottom of her rucksack that she'd forgotten about. It was duly confiscated but we did wonder how it had been missed so many times ..]

[I managed to take a knife into Winson Green Prison by accident back in the 1990s. I'd probably have been able to get the same knife on a plane. That was a keyring in the form of a mini Swiss knife. I could probably have done more damage with the bunch of keys it was attached to.]

[My car, wife and I were randomly searched by a British border officer at Ouistreham prior to boarding a ferry home. The search revealed a Swiss army penknife in my pocket that I’ve carried everywhere for decades and hadn’t registered that I shouldn’t have it on me at that time. The officer suggested that I put it in luggage in the boot of the car and be grateful that it was her who had done the search and not a French official!] |

They took my Swiss army knife from me at San Diego airport in the mid-2010s...fortunately it wasn't my favourite one but was annoying to have it taken off me. I forgot it was there, as I had it in my checked luggage when I flew there and should have done likewise on that flight but forgot!

[OH got a Very Hard Stare Indeed when security at Keflavík found his swiss army knife in his hand luggage. He was in a wheelchair so I had to deal with it. Security must have felt sorry for him as they knew he was going to get hell from me so they gave us it back. I was quite impressed that they found it on the scanner though they couldn't find it in the actual bag till I realised what and where it was.] |
