And the charging was my suggestion (or some people's suggestions!) It was brilliant fun, we did it back in August when they were trialling it. The idea about having a cost to enter is to make people commit. They need people to turn up who say they will. My suggestion was to refund any entry fee to anyone who turned up. More like an entry deposit. Go for it Stoosh. It's amazing spectacle. :-)G

I agree with your point about getting people to commit, HappyG. A deposit might have been better for that though than making one pay in exchange for goody bag and t-shirt? It sounds like a unique spectacle and good fun indeed (which is why I had wanted to come along to the trial runs), but being skint, £10 isn't little...

Response from SoL team The requirement for the event has not changed – the distance will still be 3-5K on hilly terrain. However, the reason we are advising people to be at 10K standard in the training packs is to highlight the fact that hill running is a different set of skills and requires a higher level of fitness than a 5k on flat ground. I would advise your team not to panic on this one but to follow through the Beginners Training pack first then progress onto Intermediate if they feel confident with it. Most importantly, begin to incorporate some hill runs into the training. If they already have hill experience then that’s great, and I would also suggest visiting Arthur’s Seat to see what running along those paths is like too. Here in semi-rural S Lanarkshire we're not short on hills so - bring on the fun! |

great to see Triplet Dad and Dvorak today at Lasswade. Sorry I missed you at the end for tea and scones, Dvorak, after you pushed me round most of the course. That wee guy with the red hat who we were with at about 8 miles said "don't think I'll get 1hr30 today" and I just thought well I might so I put the heid and went for it and came in on 1hr 30. Great race.

Hope you got a couple of scones at least - scones with strawberry jam and fresh cream! Quality :-). You just started to open a gap then I looked up as I neared a corner and you had gone * run* and were never seen again. A bit inside your predicted time, then

Well done Smout! Fantastic result. Good running from Dvorak and Triplet Dad too, well done to you both. I had to leave straight away so missed out on what sounds like a fabulous cakextrava. Was rather pleased with my 5 minute PB, though
