Going back to mental issues, Lefevere doesn't seem like the manager anyone would want if they are struggling mentally.

I'd still like to understand what happened. Could he really have fought on in GC on Friday but just cracked mentally when it felt hard early? The description of Friday from him sounds like sickness which it clearly wasn't based on yesterday.

I feel like Remco needs to go to a team that will nurture him more, he's such a talent, yet fragile. He needs a mentor/father figure maybe ?

Remco on the attack again today, multiple tries to get away. Jumbo trying to ensure the right composition and looks like they are finally happy.

I'm still confused TBH.

In some ways I'm seeing echoes of Pinot, but with a different physiological strength. Frequently very strong racer, able to do something exceptional on their day, but, especially under the piercing eye of the press, not quite able to withstand the pressure over three weeks. Take that pressure away, and he's mentally free to race as he enjoys.

That's my speculation anyway.

I didn't really see much pressure on him here though. Even his comments here about needing the three week ride for next year's TDF (a reason for not dropping out) doesn't sound like someone that's cracked under pressure. Jumbo were clear favourites and held the cards. The go slow and block last climb by QS on Wednesday was odd as well but looks like they knew something was up in hindsight. On Thursday at the bonus sprint QS sent someone else to compete against Roglic, so they obviously cared but Evenepoel for some reason wasn't up to it.

I think he gets a lot of stick from the Belgian media

But that would apply to all races and he's fine in one day races, also I can't imagine he was getting much stick in the current situation pre stage 13 either. There was no obvious build up of external pressure leading to stage 13.

I was just looking in the Belgian sites but couldn’t see anything obviously hostile, but maybe I’m looking in the wrong places, which is entirely possible. I was wondering what their take on letting 40 riders up the road was and handing the jersey to Kuss son that stage, expecting to see some kind of onslaught, but didn’t see anything on the couple of sites I looked at. Could have missed it though.
