Shame that Evenepoel wasn't up to testing Jumbo for whatever reason. Even if I didn't want him to win, it would have been nice to see the battle and how it played out.

Maybe the solution for TJV to avoid bickering between JV and PR as to who gets to win 2x GT in one season is to let Kuss have the win. Definitely looked like they were both working for Sepp today, rather than for themselves.

Rouleur makes a good argument that Evenepoel has NEVER been able to master the toughest stages in a grand tour, and it always has been an achilles heel, just perhaps not one really exposed in last year's win: rouleur.cc |

Odd though that he should get dropped so early, before you'd expect a rider or his quality to find it hard. Could he psychological, a fear of what's to come maybe accumulated over a few weeks.

I don't know whether there would be bickering between Roglic and Vingegaard but I think the fact Kuss isn't a threat to the hierarchy does make things easier.

I don't think Evenepoel should have dropped that early without an issue. I can see him having an issue over three weeks and last year would have been interesting if Roglic hadn't crashed out but this would basically make him useless as a GT rider.

Last two race days of Van Vleuten's professional career in the Simac Ladies Tour this weekend. I'm not sure she'll be able to do anything with tomorrow's stage, so expecting to go out with a bang around Cauberg/Valkenburg today.

Interesting stats from yesterday's hills, predicted vs actual times (and yes I know tail wind etc etc): Aubsique was a much faster ascent that expected the rest were pretty much in line, which is what killed off Evenepoel and Almeida. predicted fastest Portalet — 9:30 8:53 Aubisque — 46:30 43:34 Spandelles — 32:00 31:28 Tourmalet — 50:00 50:54 Will we see Evenepoel go and try and make a point today, as he will have free reign? |

Yes, but it shouldn't have killed them off. Lots of people they are better than generally were still there. It doesn't really make sense for Evenepoel to have legs today. I expect he totally shut down yesterday to not waste energy but if he was just slightly off then that wouldn't have been an option. |

Yeah it shouldn't have killed him off, the Aubisque (having ridden the simulated version in about double the time they took to get up it), is relentless, not that steep and pretty constant, it is an unusual hill to kill off a diesel such as Evenepoel. No further clues in the press today either!
