Evenepoel broken already on Aubisque. 1 minute behind and growing.

That probably wins Kuss the race if he keeps his legs.

Re: ToB, they have a history of choosing boring routes not condusive to exciting racing.
Hence why the TdY fields tended to be of a higher calibre, despite being a shorter and lower status event.
A shame it went, as the ToB will go/has gone back to avoiding interesting stages in Yorkshire again.

They can only have races if start/finish towns are willing to host them, and regions are willing to accommodate them. They can't go for more selective GC terrain if areas with such terrain don't want it.
The alternative is basically no ToB, and as much as the current parcours probably doesn't make for the most enthralling racing, it's still likely a pretty huge deal for a lot of the home teams at a time when British domestic racing is on its knees.

It is strange that domestic racing is struggling so much given how many Brits are riding on the continent for a whole range of foreign teams. Historically I know we've not been a road racing country but you'd think there'd be some ability to capitalise on the success with a demstic scene.

I agree MM. But if the racing is boring and the coverage therefore light and the best riders aren't coming, it becomes harder to attract the start/finish towns etc.
I'd argue that exciting racing has to be better for the domestic British teams too?
I have absolutely no idea how BC organises the event, but something in the way they do it leans towards boring races.
Contrasted with the TdY that seemed to make exciting races every year.
Is it just that ASO have a bigger pull than BC? Or did they do it a different way? I have no idea - I can only comment on it as a TV (and occasional in person) viewer of the events.

It's almost the other way around; many British registered teams race ride on the continent because the UK scene is so poor.
A big part is cost of organising policing/road closures in the UK. For whatever reason, the cost are so huge here that entire teams can travel to the continent (particularly Belgium) and race a few highly competitive events over a long weekend for less than it would cost to enter the team in one UK event.
There are of course another subset of riders, largely the pure climbers, for whom we just don't have the terrain, and need to go to the likes of Zappi's.

Shame for the race and for Remco of course. Wasn’t expecting that this morning.

Any word on the issue with Evenepoel? Presumably ill which would explain not sprinting with Roglic yesterday.
