According to ProCyclingStats, 51 finishers, ouch. UCI points go down to 60 (although it's only 3 points each for 55–60).

Tremendous cycling, seems like their extra endurance was the key.

Unbelievable. I suspect they were instructed not to say 'the sprint was just for fun' on national TV
3 line to line full out races was their best chance, trusting Jess & Caitlin would be knackered after the first effort. Althoug the ~15cm win in the secon heat was cutting it fine. The squashed scheduling helped with the 3rd heat only 30 mins later. I was confident as soon as they rolled up. *Both Jenny & Sophie can be a bit obstinate. If they decide something, it's going to happen.
Now to their preferred events ... TT and road race. Hoping they csn recover and the Irish aren't too rested.
*Expecting Sophie to be awarded honorary Scots Nationality. Cycling Scotland seem to have adopted her.
6 shirts now !

And in the spirit of the competition, the Aussies having come here as the world no. 1 sprinters are well upset. But also a bit in awe and very impressed.
I suspect, like any sporting confrontation with Australians, it will just raise the bar for next time.
