One of the all-time best test matches in Auckland today, with Tonga taking a 24-0 lead against New Zealand, but only 1 point in it at the end. England Women against Wales Women on BBC2 right now is rather one-sided though...

Big news down under, with the Australian government committing $600 million for an NRL team in Papua New Guinea - theguardian.com

I'd expect some British players to end up there given the amount of money being talked about.

First round of the Challenge Cup this weekend. There were supposed to be some matches being streamed by the BBC. However, the weather means that only a couple of games are going ahead - notably the Army playing the RAF at Aldershot.

Story of the round though is amateur club Rose Bridge who are drawn at home against Longhorns, who've travelled over from Ireland. They've had 100+ volunteers working to clear snow and ice from the pitch, and managed to get various local businesses to loan tarps, heaters, snow blowers etc. to try to defrost it and get the game on, so that the overseas visitors get to play. Players and volunteers from their local rivals St. Pats have turned out to help last night and this morning too, so fingers crossed for the pitch inspection at 1PM.
