LOL, so my point about NI never being a "country" would be broadly accepted by the populace, both Republican and Unionist?

DeeGee - the Union of the Crowns maintained the existence of two separate states - England and Scotland until the Union of Parliaments in 1707 that brought about the UK - nearly one hundred years later.
The decision to go into the Union was highly contentious with riots on the streets in Scotland.
It is interesting to look at European states. Italy and Germany only came into existence in the late 19th century.

The map of Europe is very different from my primary school days, let alone what it would have been like in my great grandparents' early years:- USSR East Germany / West Germany Czechoslovakia Yugoslavia
Perhaps its that very fluidity in Europe which has me patting the UK on the back for stabilty in structure.

Plenty of tales of people putting England or Scotland as place of birth on their US landing documents and being sent to the back of the line. I don't know if this us standard policy.

I don't hear the citizens of Neutral Moresnet or the Territory of the Saar demanding independence, though...

Lark - hmmm, no; very rarely is anything accepted by everybody over here. Only exaggerating slightly to say that sometimes every issue feels like a zero sum game. If they agree with a statement, then we must disagree with it.
But a more specific answer is no - as I said a couple of pages back, there actually is a sizeable number here who would genuinely say they were "Northern Irish". My OH would be one. I know there is more to defining whether a place is, or is not, a country than that. But if you asked, that's what you'd find.

Poor choice of word. Substitute the word problem for truck. So it should read.
I have no problem with a unified Ireland. Either inside or outside of the UK. Others obviously do.
