Finally got something through the door from Labour.
A very very good piece of literature actually. Very engaging candidate, and absolutely no mention of Corbyn, McDonnell or in fact any of the shadow cabinet, strangely......
Also cherry picked some of Labour’s better policies and left out the excesses of Corbyn’s 70s socialism nostalgia trip and anti business/wealth rhetoric. Read in isolation it could easily be the sort of modern social democratic programme I’d love to vote for (and so would millions of others).
A real what might have been/could have been/should have been moment.

I think Johnson is a piss-poor excuse of a politician. Like Trump, he is setting new lows for mendacity, ignorance and buffoonery in office. Like Trump he is less a man than a collection of character flaws. I'd like to think the British public will have less appetite for an international embarrassment as leader, but time will tell. So far the signs aren't good.
Being an old fart I can say right now that I think he is the absolute worst PM in terms of statesmanship, knowledge, ability and vision that I have ever experienced. At bottom he is an unprincipled, entitled collection of prejudices and high-level bullshit which might be acceptable in a journalist churning out "amusing, controversial" hack pieces, but which won't wash in a 21st century politician hoping to unite the country behind him. I doubt his career will end well.
He won't have anywhere to hide if he gets another term, and given that the only qualification a Tory MP needs to make the cabinet nowadays is "must be a Brexit headbanger" the intellectual capacity of the next cabinet is going to be very low. Knowledge, wisdom and intellectual rigour will be in short supply with Johnson, Raab, Cleverly, Rees-Mogg, Leadsom, Truss etc steering the ship and fuck-ups will happen with depressing regularity.
Unquestioning loyalty is all that is needed. I expect years of gaffes, creeping levels of corruption and heartless policy setting which will eventually do for them the way it did for Major. That's before considering that he will be found out pretty quickly on his "oven-ready deal", which is really the purest bullshit. I dare say that when the EU runs rings round us on the FTA he will respond by ramping up the rhetoric against them, and our slow slide into a nasty island of nationalist shitbags will continue.
