When I'm v.c. at my local parkrun, I always tell the volunteers to desert there post if they see a runner in trouble. If they don't feel able to offer support, I tell them to come & get one of the Run Directors.
More trouble at parkrun yesterday. I had a gentle jog over to one of the local Brighton parkrun's. After the parkrun was over, a lady was really laying into the Run Director over a stray dog running all over the course & getting in her way. When the lady runner in question cleared off, I went & spoke to the R.D. She said the lady had sworn at her & was rude & abusive.
I told her that I had been running behind the lady in question for the last two laps & that the dog belonged to a member of the public. It did run along part of the course, but at no time did it run in & out of the runners or cause a hazard. The lady runner was wildly exaggerating.
Maybe that runner had never heard a run director say "And don't forget, we share the park with other users." Mind you, the lady in question was wearing a 250 top, so you would think that she would know the pre-run brief by now.
All's well that ends well though. The R.D. had the last laugh. I notice in the results, the lady in question is down as unknown. Serves her right.

Indeed it does. And when she emails in to complain I trust the emsil will go straight to HQ where she will receive short shrift. This abuse of volunteers has got to stop.

Was she wearing a cow cowl, by any chance?

Fizz :-)
I think that’s harsh (but also sadly possibly true) and is the reason I no longer wear mine.

I'm one away from earning mine. I'll wear it, hopefully to restore some pride to the garment. I've just found that, every occasion when someone in a 250 t-shirt has decided to tell me how to organise my event better (often in contravention of my permit, or with no regard to local conditions), they've been wearing a cowl. Usually the 250 t-shirt brigade are thoroughly complimentary.

Does anyone else, when visiting a new place, start to scope out potential as a parkrun venue, or is it just me? Visited a new town with my kids yesterday, found a car park with toilets, ample parking, a cafe nearby and a long riverside path, and the first thing I thought was "Why's there no parkrun here?"

I find that many of the ultra uber cowl mason types ignore me after I have responded to their initial question - which, if they feel that I as a non cowl wearing prole am worthy of being spoken to, tends to be; 'how many runs/different events have you done'? DeeGee i don't put you in that category and will of course welcome you should our paths cross again no matter what you wear ( well maybe not a Hull / Scunthorpe or Lincoln shirt )
There seems to be a growing mass of xyz parkrun on tour groups visiting other events which is nice as long as the numbers are not too overwhelming but I fail to understand why some of these groups do things that they wouldn't dream of doing at their own event. This week one particularly large group decided to start together ( which is ok ) but they all set off in line across the path ( in a herd ) and restricted others being able to pass until the route widened.

I don't own a Hull/Scunthorpe/Lincoln shirt Kev. I'm trying to wean my son off Hull City fandom as well - entirely my fault, took him to watch Watford at the KCom.
