I had never heard of GRL until this thread. Their website is not helpful ... you can't seem to see how big an event is, or the time spread on it... unless I am not operating it correctly. It seems to want a surname. Hey ho, there's none near me anyway.

You can see the results (and number of participants) on each individual events pages eg Glasgow greatrunlocal.org

I'm not all against Great Run Local - I even have a wristband for it (albeit never used yet), but whilst individual events may have a small but happy following (and new ones are launching eg Washington and Whitby); in overall terms - especially given Brendan Foster's initial interviews regarding it (aim: to get a million people running) - it has to be counted as very largely a failure.

(A recent Glasgow event recorded a 5K first finisher at 09:36. Unfortunately the identity is unknown - certain Olympic Gold if they can find them and get them onboard :-p )

I've done one GRL, in Southwold, in 2015. It was a little odd in that it's an out and back, with a turn-round point on a long straight tarmac path, yet it is definitely a three mile course, not a 5k. They could very easily have made it 5k but clearly chose not to. Numbers were very low when I ran it, and I see they still are, fewer than 20 most weeks.

I suppose the people who run and organise it enjoy it and good luck to them. At least they're not swamping local roads with parked cars and causing congestion on a popular walking and cycling route! You could say it lives up to its name and it's a local run for local people ;-)

I wouldn't go near anything to do with "Great Run" due to their ridonculous pricing of their pay for events.
