I did Richmond a few years back, it’s the only single lapper I’ve done. It was snowy on that day and not too busy

I was RD today, and what a mare I had!

Backing up something chronic at the scanners as we were struggling to get the finish positions to scan.

We got new blue tokens and frankly I think they’re shit.

Anyone else feel the same or have same problems?

It was worsened by the sun being out today but that’s always been an issue

We've got them, have had for a few months, and haven't had any trouble. I wonder if yours are badly printed, Maz?

Increasingly we're (ie core team members who are around) using the app on our phones to keep the queues down. Apart from gobbling up battery life on some people's phones, the app seems to work well. We don't use it for timekeeping though.

Timing seems to work well. My phone camera is broke and won't focus so don't think it will work for scanning.

We tried the timekeeping bit once as a trial/back up to our two watches but found it recorded some phantom finishers, and also rain on the screen seemed to be problematic. That was when it was first launched and possibly user error was a factor. The battery usage is a big problem though, even with a full battery at the start I wonder if it would survive 600 runners.

We use the app but not exclusively, just when a volunteer wants to for either timing or scanning. The processing power required for timing is much less than for bar code scanning (no camera required) so the timer function uses much less battery than when scanning.

The main advantage is the lack of cables required to upload the results. The results processor doesn't actually need to attend the event with the app and there was an example this weekend of an Aussie ED processing the results for their event whilst in Germany.

That's interesting njo, I didn't know that about the processing power thing. Perhaps on a dry day it would be worth us getting one of the timekeepers to use the app while the other one uses the watch and we'll see how it goes.

There's no doubt using the app for scanning is a big step forward.

Ashton Court parkrun I understand is a long up and then down. I’m planning on visiting next Saturday and am wondering how steep it is, not so much for the climb but the descent and the impact it might have on my delicate knees. Any gen would be appreciated.
