I would have been the same metro nome. But then, I was borrowing my friends bmw, so May have managed...... :/
Rising sun had over 850 and there’s a right turn about 30 metres in which didn’t go well and they were very quickly walking to get round, there’s a video of the start going around somewhere. They normally get about 250 runners so was a massive increase.

I wonder if parkrun HQ might review their 'double parkrun' policy in view of the massive numbers turning up at, and threatening to overwhelm, the later-starting parkruns? It may only be one day of the year, but parking issues, damage to grass surfaces (I know grass grows back, but some landowners might not appreciate it), headaches for volunteers to manage, are issues they might want to look at. I'm not saying NYD parkruns should be stopped, but maybe a common start time for all might be better.

I wonder if parkrun HQ are rubbing their collective hands and seeing the prospect of New Year's Day being defined by parkrun rather than by bells, booze and Jools Holland.

We are certainly intending to review our nyd run. Surely it's up to the individual events to decide if they can cope?

I can't help but agree, my local had 3 times the numbers as against the norm, many driving there from earlier ones. The local parkrun cliques thought it was great, the state of the surfaces and damage to the lower meadow were quite bad. Let alone the other park users. The driving to get to one is what I don't understand (quite a few biked/run), how is that local and sustainable?
It's not just a matter of coping it is a matter of abusing their position in relation to the use of parks for everyone and as I said the supposed local parkrun ethos.
I saw a post rom one couple that got in a car at 4.00am to drive to Bushy and Upton COurt!

True, Teebee. Numbers do seem to have been surprisingly large at some events this year, so no doubt a lot of other core teams will be reviewing their NYD events.

I loved my NYDD but I confess I am starting to get concerned that parkruns exponential growth of late may see it becoming a victim of its own success. Rather like compound interest as more people tell more people it's going to get bigger. The RD has to be a saturation point at some stage? As an e ample I signed up in 2007 & between then & 2010 when hubby signed up numbers had only increased by approx 200,000 is 3.5 years. There's now about that increase every month.

Is that right? I thought a bit of a peak was readed about 18 months back....there is a difference between registrations and people actually running. Maybe it is a factor of new parkruns. The staggered times definitely contribute.#
The double/treble seems to be a 'thing'.
