If they start at the same time that surely stops it...

On the plus side of doubles, we were at Grovelands (9am) and Oak Hill (10.30am) yesterday, 2 miles apart so easy to run between and also close enough that volunteers at one event could take part in the other which enabled them to get in a NYD run themselves, they had clearly worked together in the organisation so surely it should be up to the individual events to decide what they want to do?

I wonder if the doubles Xmas / triples NYD runners realise that the “rules” say their results don’t stand? Or if they care about it anyway? Plenty of runners do daft things “just because”, it’s not something limited to parkrun.

And even if at the fringes there are some dubious activities going on which are neither eco-friendly or particularly “parkrun” in their ethos, the bottom line is that 130,000 got up for a communal run on NYD, and that’s not happened in the UK before. Take the rough with the smooth, that’s certainly a “good thing”.

Though I wouldn't like to lose the New Year Day run completely - at Pocket yesterday there were 22 finishers recording their first ever parkrun - 22 people who may have lost their nerve if they'd waited unti Jan 5th to kick off their resolutions and discover that parkrun is actually fun

I should edit to say the actual attendance was about 125k, and that includes double counts for runners, so perhaps its more like 100,000 people running. Still good though!!

yes, as usual I need to point out the UK population is 66 million, etc, etc etc. Parkrun is good for a very limited few. Given that 100k turn up every week, it is the same people as usual, yes?

It may have been mentioned (busy thread!) but surely only a vanishingly small proportion of the runners are doing doubles or more. These runs getting double their usual numbers, it's just a busy holiday. A bit like churches being full around Christmas. Who said it was like a religion?
