Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Thanks, I did a half a couple of years ago on a blistering hot day and there was a woman outside her house at about 7 miles handing out some ice pops. It was just the best thing ever. So looking at the weather forecast earlier this week I had a lightbulb moment.

Maybe next week we can persuade the fire brigade to come along with their hoses 😂

:-(

What a complete fucking embarrassment that parkrun video is. I watched it with growing dismay throughout. It doesn't say anything about what parkrun actually is; rather, it makes it look a joke. And as such, why bother? I would think it will put off a lot more people than it would attract (the latter number, I would expect to hover around zero).

I would rather see parkrun promoting itself to the general population using a lowest common denominator advert than be pushed to promote it in a medical setting.

If it is being linked from the parkrun Facebook pages then it's not an add for people that don't already know what parkrun is though, just those that haven't plucked up the courage to turn up yet.

If people who don't know what parkrun is at all see it then it might just get them to try an find out what it is with a bit of simple research. If people who do know what parkrun is and are runners but haven't done parkrun see it then it will keep them away, so parkrun towers probably consider that a win-win situation.

Probably not going to appeal to an older age profile of non-parkrunners admittedly. I much prefer that ad, despite it being stupid, than the daft animated gifs that parkrun towers have taken to posting on a daily basis lately though. That ad and the over use of animated gifs suggests that they are consciously trying to target a different profile of non-parkrunners now. At least I hope they are doing that deliberately as if they think they are being funny or clever then it's another thing to add to the list of recent wrongness.
